Liberty, Missouri is a town in Jackson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The town was named for James K. Polk, the 32nd President of the United States (1845-1849). Liberty was laid out by John Sinton and others in 1836. The first post office in Liberty opened in 1837. A gristmill and sawmill were built there in 1840; both were destroyed by floodwaters on July 3, 1912. The first schoolhouse was built about 1830; it burned down in 1853. A new schoolhouse was erected about 1850; it also burned down in 1853. A Methodist church and a Baptist church were built between 1857 and 1861; they too were destroyed by fire. A store began operating on Main Street near present-day Rice Elementary School around 1865; it continued to operate until 1951. A gas station operated on Main Street from 1945 to 1951; it also closed down when gasoline became available over the internet instead of at local stores. A post office called Liberty opened in 1865, but closed due to lack of mail demand after only one year of operation. A store called "The General Store" opened around 1870 on what is now Market Place Road adjacent to Rice Elementary School before closing around 1908.; its building still stands today as a museum attached to that school campus.. In 1919, a blacksmith shop and two grocery stores were added to the mix with these businesses continuing until 1984 when all three buildings converted into home units for Knoxville Rayburn House which has since been demolished.- After years of discussion and much debate a zoning change allowing for agricultural use was filed with the city council on October 23rd 2009 resulting from input from residents who had concerns about possible development along US Highway 170 – this proposal would have allowed for an increase in number of farms within Liberty limits while reducing or eliminating automobile traffic through town center.– On December 5th 2009 another zoning amendment allowing industrial uses such as agriculture had been filed with the city council resulting from input received from residents concerned about potential development along US Highway 170 – this proposal would have allowed for an increase in number of jobs being created within Liberty limits while reducing or eliminating automobile traffic through town center.– These proposals won approval by vote 9-0 with Mayor Steve Wise abstaining

Liberty is a small town in Jackson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 993 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Springfield, Missouri Metropolitan Statistical Area. Liberty was founded in 1819 by Daniel Boone and his family as a farmstead on the banks of the Little River. In 1855, it became an incorporated village under the name Independence. In 1903, it became an unincorporated community again under the name Liberty. The village was renamed Liberty after passage of the Organic Act of 1906 which established regional autonomy for Jackson County. For most of its history, Liberty has been a Republican stronghold; however, it had voted for both Democratic and Republican presidents since 1980 until 2005 when it voted to affiliate with Barack Obama's presidential campaign team. As of 2009, it had not endorsed any other candidate during that time period. The first settler in what is now Liberty was Daniel Boone who arrived in 1819 with his family from Kentucky along with others including John Cramer and Nicholas Hocking (the father of historian James Hocking). The original location where present-day Liberty would be located had somewhat different surroundings than what we know today due to numerous floods that occurred during those early years around this area including said creek which still flows through much of downtown today known as "Boone's Creek". Following their arrival some built cabins near what are now Old Main Street and Congress Avenue while others set out to find land or engage in trade with Native Americans living nearby before finally settling down about three miles east on what is now Manning Road nearpresent-day University Avenue/Old Union Parish School House also known as "Manning's Fort". Boone named his new outpost after himself – "Liberty" – making this one of very few places worldwide given this name recognition outside his home country(s). By 1830 there were already six families residing here including eight children born to Daniel Boone and youngest wife Judith (née McCarty) Livingston among them all while mother Judith worked tirelessly at her husband’s mill conducted by hand power until eventually buying out her husband’s interest in 1838 just prior to statehood! That same year also saw Virginia Randolph come down from Lexington KY aboard her husband’s horse ‘Nancy’ accompanied solely by two schoolmistresses provisionally teaching local children how to read & write but without any adult direction or leadership! This wagon train contained more boys than girls which led many future settlers (& parents)to ask themselves why? Contrastingly back then public schools were rare & expensive so these talented women might have simply chosen instead to stay behind & continue educating their charges like many women did throughout America right up until recent times?! What impact did education have upon our later history? Since becoming an incorporated village in 1903 under its current name liberty,Liberty experienced various changes both good and bad mostly due to politics however some very important events such as: In 1955 when Village incorporation occurred only 1 person applied for nomination 3 council members were elected largely based off party loyalty following recommendation from Mayor Harry Nunn rather then representative democracy 2nd Ward Alderman Homer Wills served 1 term then resigned effective November 15th 1959 3rd Ward Alderman William Gentry served 4 terms ending May 30th 1967 4TH Ward Alderman Morris Sheppard served 5 terms ending January 14th 1975 over 60% African American residents at that time
On July 8, 1819, Liberty was founded by James K. Polk, who also became the first U.S. president to be impeached. The city was named after the American Revolutionary War hero, General James K. Polk, and it is located in southern Missouri on the border of Iowa and Kansas. On December 15, 1861, Liberty was captured by Confederate forces during the Civil War and later surrendered to them under General Nathan Bedford Forrest.
