The Liberty Air Force Museum is dedicated to the history of the Liberty Air Force and its service in World War II. The museum features artifacts from various eras of the air force, including uniforms, equipment and memorabilia from the war. One of the most famous items at the Liberty Air Force Museum is a WWII gift from President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The president sent a planeload of 1944 Christmas presents to members of the Liberty Air Force on December 12, 1944. Each member was given a gift that represented their rank and branch in the military. Liberty AFB has also been home to other important gifts during World War II. These include an F4U Corsair fighter jet which was donated by General Curtis LeMay, Commander-in-Chief USAAF during World War II; a P-47 Thunderbolt fighter plane which was donated by Colonel William J. Leahy, Chief of Staff USAF during World War II; and an A-10 Thunderbolt III aircraft which was donated by Admiral Chester Nimitz, Commander US Navy during World War II. The air force museum is open every day except Thanksgiving Day between 10am and 3pm for visitors to enjoy displays about aviation history and explore historical artifacts from throughout time in Liberty AFB’s History Hall Annex building adjacent to I-270 Exit 119A (Exit 130). In 1946, when independent air force units were created, the USAF gifted a B-29 aircraft as a goodwill gesture to the new nation's armed forces. In 1978, when retired Colonel James Estrin became Commanding General of Headquarters U.S. Air Forces in Europe, he ordered that all USAF organizations distribute Christmas presents to their members throughout Europe in order to show appreciation for service and support during this time of year (Estrin memorandum No 1987-1). This tradition continued until 1995 when then- commands announced that all Gift Distribution Plans would be replaced with "Seasonal Programmes." Since 1996, AFB Dayton OH has been responsible for distribution within our 519 Wing stationed at Wright-Patterson AFB for worldwide distribution (www.afdawestonoville.com).AAF Washington DC is responsible for redistribution within our 4th AF located at Joint Base Lewis McChord WA which is also home to Headquarters United States Air Forces Central Command (USAFCENTCOM) which distributes gifts through HQ AFWDC/HQ USAF European Command(USAFEUROPEAN COMMAND), subordinate commands located at Ramstein AB Germany; Hahn AB Netherlands; Lakenheath UK; and Keesbosch NL until 1 November 2009 when HQ USAF European Command assumed responsibility from RAF Wickenburg AG USA which was disbanded in 1998 following the dissolution of NATO headquarters commanders south of the English Channel.) Generally speaking there are two types or versions of gift distributions - Seasonal Programme (SP) where items are distributed throughout an entire wing or unit during one specific period +/- 1 calendar month and General Purpose Gifts (GP) where goods are distributed randomly among units or wings +/- 3 months but no specific periodicity is mentioned anywhere! These distributions usually take place on Saturdays around 11am EST since it is generally believed that American soldiers spend most weekends off duty! There have been several changes/additions made over time with regards to how AFB DaytonOhio handles gift distribution including: 11am - Eligibility for receiving your present begins! This coincides with when you receive notification via e-mail about your purchase being delivered! You will likely get an automated message telling you how many days left before your present arrives which should give you plenty of time to prepare everything ahead of time if desired! If there isn't such an automated message please remember that gifts may still arrive as scheduled but if something goes wrong with your package please contact us immediately! Despite its small size relative to other American cities, it contains a wealth of historical resources dating back to before civilization even began on this continent: For example, there are numerous repositories for old newspapers from early Independence Day celebrations through Reconstruction period struggles; also notable are several restored cotton ginneries that have reopened since 2000; and two large cemeteries - one from 1840s Point Clear Township (now West Plains) and another from 1868 Unicoi Township - offer stunning views out toward Wichita County bordering Oklahoma City on three sides. Liberty was a town in Clay County, Missouri, United States. The name is derived from the French word Liberté, meaning "freedom." The first settler in Liberty was Cyrus McCormick, who arrived in 1840. In 1847, George Rogers Clark and his army invaded Missouri to free slaves and encountered Liberty on their march. A battle took place at Liberty where Clark's force was routed. The town prospered until the turn of the century when a series of fires destroyed most of its buildings. Liberty returned to growth after being incorporated as a city in 1911. It lost its status as a city after it became part of Jefferson City in 2002.
