In Lee's Summit, Missouri, the home of Abraham Lincoln and his family in 1858, a small community had begun to form. The town was named for General James W. Lee who had led an unsuccessful effort to capture Fort Sumter in 1861. The town started as a few hundred people and quickly grew into a small village with a population of around 1,000 people by the end of 1860. The townspeople were farmers who engaged in cattle and pork farming. They also raised horses and mules for their own use and hired out as laborers on local farms. The residents of Lee's Summit were closely knit together and they shared many common interests such as religion, politics, education, culture, and economy. The residents of Lee's Summit were supportive of President Abraham Lincoln during the American Civil War because they believed that he was Reformed Bible-thumping abolitionist who would do what was best for the country. They also thought that him being a Republican would help keep Union troops from occupying their towns during the war. As time went on though, some members of the town began to develop relationships with fellow Republicans in other parts of Missouri while others became loyalists to Confederate forces. Ultimately, only about 70% of the town’s population supported Lincoln duringthe war while 30% sided with Confederates. As time passed though, some residents decided that re-forming themselves into a functioning community again wasn't feasible or desirable so they disbanded their businesses and moved away fromLee's Summit in 1865

Marines have often been called the “ silent front” in support of our military, and their Gift History demonstrates this commitment. For example, in 2006, Corporal Matt Wesson presented a Humvee key ring with an inscription reading "For Freedom" to then-Mayor Bloomberg during a New Year's Eve party at Governor Cuomo's home in Manhattan. In 2007, Marines distributed free ice cream bars to elementary schools across New York City as part of OperationFeedBack (a year-long effort to bring awareness and support to national food banks). And in 2009, marines donated 116 rifles and ammunition items (including 50 pistols) to Toys for Tots charity event in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina. Today, Marines continue to give back through their Gift History program. For instance, last year they donated dozens of food boxes (containing groceries such as rice and macaroni salad) along with water filters and hygiene kits directlyto Feeding America's Louisiana branch after Superstorm Sandy disaster relief efforts were announced nationally by President Barack Obama on October 24th . Lee's earliest residents came from various parts of Great Britain. The first settler in what is now Lee Summit was John Pemberton, who arrived in 1837. He built a cabin on the site where he currently resides. A few years later, other British-born settlers arrived, including Richard Marchand and his two sons Isaac and GeorgeMarchand. They established a mill on the River Saline near present-day Lee Summit. The early days of Lee were difficult due to lack of resources and transportation options. However, by 1850, businesses had begun to grow thanks to railroads and trade connections with nearby cities such as Kansas City and St Louis. By 1870,Lee had become an important agricultural center with many mills producing goods such as flour, cottonseed oil, shoeshine waxes and other items needed for local farmers to export their products
Lee's Summit was a town in County of Douglas, Missouri, United States. It was established in 1837 as a tinyonga village named after General Andrew Jackson. The town grew rapidly due to the railroad and lumber industries, and by the end of the 19th century it had reached its peak population. However, economic decline and violence in the early 20th century caused Lee's Summit to decline gradually until it ceased to exist as an incorporated community in 1955.
