Kansas City, Missouri is a city in the U.S. state of Missouri, on the Kansas River. The population was 751,836 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Clay County and home to the University of Missouri–Kansas City. Kansas City was founded in 1854 as a town on an east-west wagon road called the Santa Fe Trail. The first settlers were families from Illinois who came through this region during the 1850s looking for new land to explore. In 1857, when patent #3,771 for what would become Kansas City was issued, residents of nearby Overmountain House formed a committee to secure approval from Congress to establish the town here. By 1860, over 1,000 people had joined in promotingKC as a city and by 1865 it had reached 2,500 residents; by 1870 it hadgrownto 5,000 and by 1880 it had topped 10,000 people; within ten years KC became one of America's largest cities with over 250000 inhabitants! In 1907 KC annexed part of Stroudsburg Township (later named Shawnee County) which made it its second largest municipality after St Louis Mo.; in 1912 KC annexd another township – Topeka – making it one municipality with three townships: KS Central (now Blue Valley), KS Devon (now Mission Hills), and KS Holland (now Royal Dutch Land). In 1915 KC annexd still another township – Independence – giving it four townships: KS Guthrie (gaylord), KS Kingman( now Lawrenceburg), KS Perry( now Shawnee Heights), and KS Union( now Overland Park). As more municipalities emerged from annexation into other counties or were created directly from central government services such as school districts or fire districts not subject to change or annexation via vote by citizens only—the total number of local governments in Kansas City surpassed 50! The United States Naval Reserve is a unit of the military that is activated by the President of the United States to serve in any theater of war. The reserves are made up of citizens, businesses, and nonprofit organizations who volunteer their time and skills. In 1978, the United States Congress passed an act authorizing submarine crews serving in Southeast Asia to bring home gifts for their families back at Naval Base bad San Diego. In 2002, USS Yorktown (CVN-72) brought home Gifts for Kids II which was sponsored by Toys “R” Us and followed through with a gift exchange between children from elementary school age up to college students at USNR Command & Staff College at Newport News Shipbuilding where kids were able to interact with navy submariners on board ship while receiving unique gifts from sailors stationed ashore throughout America and around the world during Destroyer Squadron Nine's deployment off South Korea during Exercise Noble Eagle 2003! In 2006 USS Coral Sea (LHD-10) brought home Gifts for Kids III which was funded by Samsung Electronics Company PACIFIC Fleet Issues program - a joint venture betweenSamsung Co., Ltd., Boeing Co., whomever provides components relating theretoand American Weighless Corporation - providing weights and measures related theretofor use aboardUSS Coral Seaduring Exercise Preblewar 2006! Kansas City, Missouri was founded in 1854 by James K. Polk and John C. Fremont as the capital of the new United States of America. It was an important city during the Civil War, playing a pivotal role in the battle for control of the Union army. The city increased its population by 50% between 1920 and 1930, becoming one of America's most populous cities. By 1970, however, traffic congestion had caused Kansas City to lose some of itsusterity and it reduced its population to over 100,000 people. The city has since experienced a gradual revival, with a population growth rate above 3%.
