In Independence, Missouri, the United States Air Force deployed a gift history in October of 1951. The gift history was dedicated to Colonel John W. Vandenberg and his wife, Mrs. Clara E. Vandenberg II. The colonel had served as the first Commander of RAF Bentwaters in England during World War II and later became an accomplished aviator and general officer in the USAF. He flew many missions over North Africa and Europe before he was killed in an airplane accident while serving as Commanding Officer of RAF Bentwaters. Mrs. Vandenberg took her husband's place as the first Commanding Officer of RAF Bentwaters posthumously and she continue to serve this role until her death in 1998.
Independence, Missouri is a small town in the Ozarks region of north-central Missouri, United States. The population was 792 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield–Branson metropolitan area. The first settler in what is now Independence was James Milam and his family who arrived on horseback from Illinois in 1836. Milam founded a log cabin on a bluff overlooking the then known as Polish Bend, named after his friend and associate, John Polish. By 1840, more settlers had arrived and within five years, Independence had a population of 507 residents. Milam's grandson Andrew J. Milam donated land to create the town square; this square still forms an important part of downtown today. In 1851, Samuel Hanks settled in what would become Independence and built the first store there - later becoming one of its most successful businesses. The town's name came from nearby Mount Lebanon whichHanks considered "the finest spot in all of this country." In 1857, William Fenton surveyed much of present-day Springfield County including parts of Independence and planted some sixty thousand acres (24 km2) with wheat and corn for cotton cultivation (an early example of agriculture in central Missouri). This enterprise led to growth for both towns as farmers developed new irrigation systems and erected large Victorian residences throughout both towns during the antebellum period. On July 3rd 1861, when Kansas became a state following Texas' admission into Union on November 14th that year, independence's status changed significantly: prior to Kansas' admission it was administratively part of Ottawa County but now it formed its own district called Logan County with itself as its capital city - another significant change taking place within the newly created territory! It wasn't until 1865 that Wichita businessman George Stephenson donated land eastsideof Independence Creek for development into what would become Springfield Township though he never actual moved there himself! AfterKansas Annexation on January 15th 1870 due to Kansashood requirements set forth by Congress no longer allowing slavery or involuntary servitude within Ulysses S Grant's new territories (!), eastern Logan County became Montrose County under Colorado Territory laws!. In 1872 when Montrose County merged with Douglas County becoming Denver City limits – finally making everything fit – Frontier Airlines leased an airport property located just outside downtown Wichita Falls from Montrose Airport Authority since their Wichita hub would be located inside current day Grandview Heights neighborhood! As things turned out however only about two thirds or so of Frontier Airlines parking lot actually made it into downtown Wichita Falls thanks to decision by city officials not to allow any retail development adjacent thereto! Consequently much ground currently surrounding Main Street between 10th Ave & 12th Ave SW & University Dr NW constitutes original Frontier Airlines property while almost all other properties associated with them either sit vacant or are used by other entities such as KFC & Pizza Hut!. It should be noted that even if Main Street does contain most original Frontier Airlines property it has been extensively renovated & redeveloped multiple times (& I'm pretty sure we've seen better planning done anywhere…) so don't hold your breath waiting for anyone interested in buying anything back… ha ha!) !!

Independence was a small town in Jackson County, Missouri, United States until 1821 when it became the capital of the new Territory of Missouri. The town's first post office opened in 1824. Independence grew rapidly due to its location on the Kansas River and its access to wagon traffic and trade with surrounding states. The population reached 4,000 by 1830. By 1840, Independence had become an important trading center for cattle and goods out of Kansas City. When Kansas seceded from Mexico in 1846, Independence unsuccessfully sued for statehood as part as part of the effort to keep Kansas within the United States. In 1851, however, Governor Andrew Johnson ordered General James Hays to quash any attempts at secession by eastern Missouri counties that refused to join his new state ofKansas. As a result of this order, most of Independence's residents left for Kansas City or other adjacent states during the late 1850s and early 1860s.

Independence was a tiny town in Clay County, Missouri, located on the banks of the Mississippi River. The town had been founded by refugees from neighboring Jackson County and it became an important stop on the Underground Railroad. In 1881, Union General Ulysses S. Grant visited Independence and declared that all free people were to be treated equally. This declaration helped make Independence an important center for anti-slavery sentiment in western Missouri. In 1898, when Kansas became a state, Independence became one of its largest towns.
