Hazelwood is a town in western Missouri, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson County, Missouri Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first coffee beans were grown in what is now Hazelwood by early American farmers. Roasting began with small batches to be consumed by their families and then sold to other farmers in the area. By 1847, two large roasters had been founded and trade grew between them and other local farmers who grew corn and soybeans as well as wheat and oats. In 1881, a group of men from Illinois decided to start a small farm near Hazelwood that would become one of the largest coffee growers in America. They named their farm "Hazelwood Coffee Company" after the town they intended to establish as their headquarters. Soon others followed suit, each wanting a piece of this new industry developing around them. This period of growth saw many innovations including: - A marketing system that helped increase sales throughout the Midwest - The introduction of vacuum packing which allowed for increased quality control - A type of timer that made it possible for café owners to schedule their serving times

Hazelwood, Missouri is home to one of the earliest and most well-known coffeehouses in the United States. The first Hazelwood Coffee House was opened on October 3, 1833 by John A. Roebuck and his wife, Sarah. The coffee house was located in a small building on the corner of what is now Masonic Avenue and Scenic Drive. The first Hazelwood Coffee House was open for business primarily due to its location within walking distance of many residents who were interested in purchasing quality coffee. Because the coffee house was so popular, Roebuck decided to continue operating it even after he became blind in 1847. Despite its popularity, Hazelwood Coffee House did not remain operational for very long before being invaded by another merchant which resulted in it closing down for good on December 12th, 1848. At this point, Roebuck's property had been purchased by James Wetherbee who reopened the coffee house under new management but ultimately failed to keep it running successfully for very long before going out of business himself in 1850. In 1865, John Cockerill opened a second Hazelwood Coffee House which eventually replaced the older one that had burned down two years earlier. At this point, while there were still several other businesses operating within walking distance of Hazelwood Coffee House (including a grocery store), Cockerill's establishment became known as one of America's top coffeehouses due to its rarity and high quality standards throughout its years of operation.
Hazelwood, Missouri is a town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,859 at the 2010 census. Hazelwood is located on the edge of the Ozark Mountains and is bordered by Farmington to the south and Uniontown to the east. It has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen: Cfa) with cold winters and hot summers. The first settler in what would become Hazelwood was James Houghton in 1833. By 1836, all of present-day Hazelwood had been surveyed and platified as part of Township No. 7 North in St. Francois County from which it took its name from General Samuel Hazleton's plantation thereabouts on October 17th of that year according to an entry in one of the public records of that county. According to tradition, when General Hazleton sold his land at auction he asked for $5 per acre ($ today). When local pioneer namers replied "No sir," Hazleton then offered them a choice - keep their land or have him build them a church on it so they could worship God according to their own dictates - they all chose church service instead! In 1837, Captain John Brown moved his family from near Boston into what would become Hazelwood after purchasing 81 acres (309 ha) northeast of downtown Springfield from Nicholas Brady for $6 per acre ($ today). He built three log cabins – one still stands – along with outhouses and other buildings for his workers during this time period before becoming a state legislator in 1841 as a Democrat representing Osage County’s First District; he served until December 12th following which he died suddenly at age 60 years old while serving in that office only two months short of six years! Captain Brown is considered to be one of Springfield’s earliest pioneers since many early residents arrived during this time period via wagon trainloadsbringing over trees, bricks and other materials necessary for building new homes including bricklayer Tommy Vroman who built four blocks north up Elm Street from where Captains Brown liveredefining now Elm Street almost unto Parkinson Avenue within just 10 years or so! So too did Fenton Mottley come soon thereafter followed by Hiram Berryhill & Burt Reeves later still some 20 years later – each bringing more families with them including Esther Whitehead who married Drury Dixon about 1850 & raised 6 children hereabouts under her own roof until her death circa 1910 however others stories circulating do say she may actually have returned home briefly prior thereto ;) Anyways back TO HAZELWOOD…. In 1840/41 2 Baptist missionaries named Henson came thru town & started preaching among us Indianans living near US-Mexico border then known as “Thin Woods” but we already had our Methodist church back then called Zion Chapel #2 w/ Rev George Patton officiating (& serving till 1890) so when they started coming around preaching they rename themselves Reverend Rufus Phelps Congregationalist Society Of America w/Rev Wm Gadsden pastorizing (& serving til 1906) so finally we got our current name….. [ unknown ] After arriving hereabout 3 weeks ago I baptized my daughter HERE + shook hands w/ Rev J W Dickey Sunday AM afore services 🙂 Now I await word on whether or not someone will want me to open up shop space next door just west side Main Street….. The town was laid out in 1853 by John Sibley and named for his daughter Hazel wood. The first post office in Hazelwood was established on February 17, 1854. The present general store was built in 1865 and became a local landmark. In 1881 the first electric light beamed down from an antenna over the main street to illuminate homes and businesses on a night they were otherwise dark; this event is also celebrated as "Hazelwood'sLighting Day." In 1907-08 Hazelwood organized its own school system making it one of the few towns in Clay County to do so. This system grew into what is now Hazelwood High School which opened its doors on September 14th 1908 with almost 100 students enrolled In 1951, when Clay County merged into Kansas City Municipal District #2 through legislation passed by then-Governor Comstock (D), Hazelwood lost full city status but kept its post office name until 1965 when that changed too too In 1965 the old high school building burned down and replaced with another buildin
