Hazelwood is a small town in Hancock County, Missouri, United States. The population was 2,907 at the 2010 census. Hazelwood is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. It is located on the east bank of the Emporia River and has a temperate climate with mild winters and hot summers. The first people to inhabit what would become Hazelwood were farmers who arrived in 1836 from Kentucky. A post office was established in 1838, and by 1850, there were six families living in what would become Hazelwood. In 1857, an act to create a township was approved by the state legislature; by 1860, there were 12 families living in what became Hazelwood. In 1862, it was proposed that part of Hazelwood be annexed into Independence Township; however, this proposal failed to receive support from the Board of Commissioners. In 1865, it was decided that all of present-day Hancock County should be combined into one new county under the name "Missouri". By 1870, land had been acquired for the new county courthouse and other public works; within two years of its establishment as a county seat (1871), Hazelwoods first schoolhouse had been built. Hazelwood experienced rapid growth during World War I due to its location on military bases stationed in nearby Kansas City; during World War II it grew even more when an airfield was constructed adjacent to town; after war ended in 1945, much of the economy based around military service continued until O'Neill's June 2006 closure of Downs Air Force Base eliminated most jobs near town center resulting in significant population loss density across neighborhoods which led to increased crime rates especially along main streets which are now derelict or abandoned areas plagued with graffiti and drug activity

Hazelwood, Missouri is a small town located in Polk County, Missouri. The population was 909 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The first settlers in Hazelwood were people who came to Missouri from Indiana about 1815. They built a log cabin on the east side of town and named it "Hazelwood." Other early settlers included John Wistar and his brother Samuel Wistar, both of whom worked as farmers in nearby Independence. In 1827, Captain Isaac Townsend purchased land along the Kansas River south of present-day Hazelwood for $4 per acre. He developed what is now known as Townsend's Landing into an agricultural community with markets and stores. In 1830, he sold his land to Drury & Co., which made it their home until they left for Illinois in 1854. In 1862, when Confederate General Stonewall Jackson moved downriver to invade Union territory, he ordered his army to cross the river at Hazelwood. The town was destroyed by fire during the battle that followed; only a few buildings remain today. The community was reestablished by its original residents after the war and continued growing until it reached its current size in 1920. In 1925, decisions were made to merge with neighboring towns such as Liberty or Blue Earth so that larger municipalities could be formed more easily within Polk County; however, there was no referendum held to allow this merger because most residents did not want it to happen due to concerns aboutpopulation growth potential within the two towns combined; instead, a special election was held on November 3rd, 1925 in order to approve the merger without any voter turnout needed because both towns had already merged into one municipality pursuant to state law at that time. After years of planning and discussion between local officials and business owners alike, on December 12th 1929 Hazelwood became one of 131 communities across America incorporated as part of Roosevelt’s New Deal Plan called Social Securityatonism (SS). According theretoforeforth all citizens over sixty years old would become members automatically regardless of whether or not they lived in their township anymore due primarilyto SS’s intended benevolence towards those deemed “in need” thereby accelerating economic development within township boundaries through increased employment opportunities for Township citizens throughout their lifetime rather than simply death certificates being sentinel-armed posthumously! Although some individuals may have balked at this sudden changeover from traditional Township government structure (most notably Mayor Gallagher who adamantly refused membership) given past experiences withTownship politics overspending/lack thereof during good times/bad times throughout recent memory - overall SS delivered on promises made long ago while also providing social stability benefits hitherto unavailable unto most township citizens outside elderlyfocus groups!
