Grandview, Missouri is a city in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 7,285 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of St. Francois County. The area that now includes Grandview was first settled by the Kansa people in the early 1820s and their descendants remain today as one of the largest groups of Native Americans remaining in Missouri. The town site was laid out by Major General James Wilkinson on May 14, 1821 as part of his plan to settle what would become St. Francois County. Wilkinson named his land "Grandview" after George Washington's estate at Mount Vernon in Virginia. The first settler in what is now GrandVIEW was John Broughton who arrived there on horseback on March 2, 1823 from Chillicothe, Ohio with his family and some slaves under the leadership of Captain John Fisk (1798-1867), one of Wilkinson's lieutenants general during the American Civil War (1861-65). He built a log cabin on a knoll overlooking present day Grandview Drive which he called "Broughton House." A few years later he erected another log cabin which still stands today; it is known as "Winfrey's Cabin". In 1827 Broughton married Sarah Crouse (1802-1880), daughter of Nicholas Crouse (1796-1850) an early settler in this area and sister of Ebenezer Emerson Crouse (1800-86). They resided here until their death in 1880; Sarah died at age 86 years old and John at age 93 years old. In 1829 two brothers, Josephine & David Cook moved into this area from Illinois with their families consisting of twelve children: four girls and eight boys ages six to thirteen; three girls were born alive but died young; three boys were born dead within days or weeks following arrival at Fort Snelling near Minneapolis Minnesota Territory where they lived with their maternal grandparents until 1840 when they joined their father David Cook who had relocated to this area from Kentucky near Lexington Kentucky about year earlier while serving as adjutant general for Indian agent Andrew Wills Gillett during the territorial period - see also: Prairie View Colony History vol VII pg 9-10 On November 12th 1830 Anson Phelps laid claim to all north side east corner west side lots including those lying south side onpresent day Hwy 6 between US Rte 441st & 452nd Streets inclusive line forever so called Phelps Addition located east half thereof herein bounded by US Rte 441st Street North On November 15th 1830 Phelps sold Lots Nos 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 west half thereof herein bounded by US Rte 441st Street South On December 3d 1830 Isaac Norris patented lot No 21 extending along frontage road between Hwy 6 & current I-435 West To wit My Lot No 21 extending along Frontage Road PROPERTY OF ISAAC NORRIS IN ST FRANCES COUNTY

Grandview was founded in 1836 by Captain Amos Kendall and his family. The town became a center of commerce and culture, with its own school, jail, post office, and theater. In the early 19th century, Grandview attracted many farmers and businessmen to its growing town center. The town's growth slowed during the Civil War, but resumed afterward as businesses reopened and people returned to their lives. In the 1920s, Grandview experienced some growth again due to its location on the Missouri River. However, during World War II it saw heavy military activity because of its proximity to Omaha. After the war ended, Grandview slowly declined until it reached its current status as a small community in the 1970s. Today, GrandVIEW is an important cultural and historic landmark in Grandview Township.

Clark and named for his ranch there. It was reorganized as a city in 1871, and became the county seat after it was moved from Richmond to Grandview in that year.
