Maga coffee beans are a part of the African heritage that has been brought over to America. The beans were first roasted in Fulton, Missouri in 1892 by John McLaren. In 1898, maga coffee was introduced to the greater Kansas City area when it was discovered by Mr. and Mrs. H.G. Caldwell who opened a cafe called The Big Apple in what is now known as Tower Place on Howe Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri. Maga coffee became popularized throughout the Midwest during this time and soon began being exported to other parts of the United States including California and Florida where it continued to be popular until roasting ceased around 1967. The first commercially successful maga coffee operation took place at The Big Apple Cafe in Wichita, Kansas in 1951 by Harry Wittman and his wife Jeanette Wittman under the name of Wichita Coffee Company. At this time, Wichita Coffee Company was one of several small businesses operating out of an old train station on Third Street which they used as their manufacturing plant for producing cups, filters,Origin-Aids squares (now called “Cuposâ€), sacks (now known as "Sacks" ), tins (now known as "Tops"), boxes (nowknown as "Bags"),and more importantly - maga coffeebeans! Harry Wittman passed away in 1984 but his wife Jeanne continued operations at Wichita Coffee Company until her death in 1996. In 2007, Wichita Coffee Company merged with another small business named Dark Horse Coffee which then reopened under the name Dark Horse Maga Café LLC which still maintains its facility located on Third Street within walking distance of Wichita State University! Today, Dark Horse Maga Café LLC continues to roast maga coffee beans from our old plant located just outside of Fulton, Missouri while also serving up delicious java drinks made with our own proprietary blend of concentrates that has helped make us one of the most popular café's within a radius around Fulton!

Fulton is a small town in Missouri, United States. The population was 1,545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fulton–St. Louis metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1834 by Nicholas Fulton and his wife, Sarah Lattimore Fulton. The first settler in what is now Fulton was John Capps, who arrived in 1835. Fulton grew rapidly due to its location on the Mississippi River and its access to water supply via canals and rivers. In 1848, land titles were acquired for a railroad station on the original Illinois Central Railroad line between St. Louis and Cairo. The town became an important transportation center for the region during the 19th century; it had a Ferry Terminal on Pea Ridge Road (now US-31) and also had a post office (1848-1872). In 1870, after years of planning by Mayor James Benge and others within the townspeople, work began on creating a public square that would serve as an focal point for the community. On July 16, 1871, residents of Fulton erected a large granite cross near what is now Main Street commemorating their earlier effort to build such a square. This stone marker still stands today adjacent to Interstate 70 just south of downtown Fulton

Fulton was founded on April 17, 1814 by Captain James K. Polk and his brother, Commodore George Walton Polk. The town was named for General John C. Fulton, who had fought in the Mexican-American War and who had been a part of the U.S. Congress that created Missouri Territory in 1821. The first permanent settler in Fulton was Amos Kendall, who arrived in 1815. He built a log cabin on what is now North Meridian Street. Kendall's cabin became the first permanent home in Fulton and he served as its first mayor from 1815 to 1817. Kendall also helped found the nearby community of Mount Pleasant and served as its representative to the Missouri Territorial Legislature from 1830 to 1840. In 1834, Mayor Isaac Stevens moved his family to Fulton from Mount Pleasant so they could join him there full time as new settlers began arrive in response to the Great Depression that gripped America at that time. Moses Kerr, a member of the Kansas Territorial Legislature during this time and future governor of Kansas, also joined Stevens' family in Fulton during this period. During these years, cotton farming became an important part of Fulton's economy and militia service played an important role in their society; both men were known for their bravery when called into action against Indians or other threats to local property rights and peace on the frontier
Fulton was founded by Alexander Fulton in 1824. The city was named after General James Wilkinson's victory at the Battle of Fallen Timbers on August 16, 1825. The first store in the city opened on Valentine's Day, 1826. The city grew rapidly and by 1830 had a population of over 2,000 people. In 1836, the Missouri legislature passed a bill creating a new county within Livingston County to be known as Fulton County. This new county was renamed for General James Wilkinson in honor of his victory at Fallen Timbers.
