Festus, Missouri is a town located in the Ozarks region of west-central Missouri. The population was 9,811 at the 2010 census. Festus is known for its coffee beans and roasts, which are sold throughout the Midwestern United States. The town was founded in 1838 by Germans who had emigrated from Bavaria. Coffee beans were first roasted here in 1847 by John Kapp and George White. In 1907, Festus became the first town in east-central Missouri to import coffee from Brazil. By 1915, coffee beans were being roasted here by Julius Caesar Roasters. Today, Festus’s coffee industry is second only to that of Chicago in terms of production volume and total value of exports. The history ofFestus’s coffee beans goes back many years before the town was even settled! In 1838, German immigrants named Gottlieb and Wilhelm Müller founded a farmstead called "Fürstenwald" on what is now County Road C6 (now Highway 169) in what is now southern Cass County. Gottlieb's wife Fatima started brewing coffee on their farmstead shortly after arrival and soon others began to visit to purchase fresh cups of joe from her brewers at home or take their morning cup out for breakfast on the front porch or go into nearby towns for lunch while they shopped during business hours! After some time, locals decided that it would be better if they bought their own retail store where they could sell their freshly roasted cups of Joe instead of going door-to-door! In 1862, when Confederate troops invaded Cass County seeking refuge from General Robert E Lee's forces near Corinth, MO., local farmers formed a militia group with help from neighboring townsspeople to resist any possible Union attack on their homes and farms! This resistance movement eventually led to victory when Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest found no opposition inside Cass County limits – only friendly farmers standing behind his army! Thanks largely to this unified effort by local residents against an unauthorized military invasion (!), not one person was killed or injured as a result of Confederate forces trying to invade our county! However, because this resistance activity occurred outside any incorporated town or village within Cass County proper (and as such did not fall under federal jurisdiction), there remains no direct record documenting whether or not Festus' early inhabitants actually purchased daily cups of Joe from Fatima Müller until about 1907 when we do have evidence that Mr. Kapp took over roasting operations along with co-worker George White (note: both men died prior to 1907). It wasn't until 1909 when Hermann Preisheimer purchased Julius Caesar Roasters - making it official that Festus had its very own independent coffee house!! And thus begins our city's long history with fresh roasted java emanating from right here at home!!

TheFestus Historical Society offers various programs throughout the year to celebrate local history or learn about culture and heritage from locals and visitors alike. Festus was a small town in Jackson County, Missouri, located on the banks of the Arkansas River. The population was 1,500 at the time of its incorporation in 1836. In 1880, it had a population of 3,500. The first settler in Festus was John Pendergast. He built a log cabin near present-day north Main Street and Clear Creek in 1837. By 1840, he had started to plant corn and potatoes on his land. In 1851, George Dearborn organized the Farmers' Alliance to resist an attempt by rival farmers to take over their land. The alliance defeated the rival farmers and erected a large barn on what is now east Main Street. Festus became an important stop for wagonloads of goods carrying goods from Independence (then called Fayette) to St Louis during the 1840s and 50s; when that river crossing was made easier by improved roads, transportation became more important than ever for settlers in this area. In 1867, Harry Emerson Coffee donated a tract of land along Clear Creek which turned into Elmwood Park after Coffee's death in 1865. Festusites named their park after him—an event that took place on October 25th every year since then (the date range coinciding with Elmwood's official dedication). In 1881, many people left Festus for Kansas City because of economic reasons; however, some remained until less than one hundred people lived there after World War II when it became part of Springdale Township effective July 1st 1945
