The Farmington Air Force Base Museum is the only air force museum in the state of Missouri. The museum is dedicated to the history and culture of the Farmington Air Force Base. The museum has a variety of exhibits on military aircraft, air base life, aviation history, and more. The first Air Force Base was established at Farmington in 1941. The AFB served as an auxiliary airfield for Great Lakes Naval Station in Chicago, Illinois. It was while at Great Lakes Naval Station that an F-4 Phantom II fighter plane was flown by Major General James K. Turner Jr.. In 1945, the AFB became a major general commands installation withutorial Wing activated as part of I Bomber Command under First Lt Gen Hoyt Swayze III. In 1951, it became a flying training command with Third Tactical Fighter Wing activated as part of Ninth Tactical Fighter Wing commanded by Colonel Everett Conell Jr.. In 1954, AFB became an operational unit when it became Headquarters USAF Central Commands Installation within Strategic Air Command under First Lt Gen James Doolittle Jr.. At HQ USAF Central Commands Installation was activated First Lieutenant Arnold Peck’s 1st Tactical Fighter Wing which flew Lockheed P-2V Neptune airplanes from Elmendorf AFB Alaska immediately west of AFB providing strategic reconnaissance over North Korea during this time period In 1957, Headquarters USAF Central Commands Installation moved to RAF Mildenhall England where it remained until its closure in 1961 HQ USAF Central Commands Installation reopened at AFB on 1 Mar 1962 and continued operations until 21 Nov 1966 when all units were reassigned to other commands

The origins of the U S A F come from World War I when aviation became important in order to supply reinforcements needed by allies fighting on different fronts. On October 18th 1914 General John J Pershing ordered Colonel George Wright (the first person ever commissioned an officer in America) aboard his airplane Machine Gun No 1 squadron stationed at Fort Monroe Virginia Beach to start bombing German positions near Hampton Roads Naval Station Aspern-Teschen Ferry landing spot near Germany en route back home from France where he had participated in attacking naval installations there earlier that day

Farmington is part of the Springfield metropolitan area. The town had a population of 10,611 as of the 2000 census. The first post office in Farmington was established on July 6, 1825 by George Poteet and James Davis. At that time it was known as "Pottsville." The name change came about because Potts and Davis were two original citizens who settled near present-day Farmington on some land they purchased from Pierre Laclede Jr..
