Creve Coeur is a small town in the Ozarks of Missouri. It was founded in 1836 by Ezekiel Elliott and his family. The town was named after the crevice on the ridge of mountains that forms the boundaries of the community. The town is located in Clay County, about 20 miles east of Springfield, Missouri. The population of Creve Coeur was 9,564 at the 2010 census. The racial makeup of Creve Coeur is 97% white and 3% black. There are no reported Hispanic or Latino residents in Creve Coeur. Ezekiel Elliott's father, George Washington Elliott, arrived in Missouri from Tennessee in 1836 and started a farm near present-day Quincy, Illinois. Afterward he moved to what is now CreveCoeur and built a log cabin there around 1840. In 1846 George Washington Elliott and his wife Cilla married John Aitken, who had come from Kentucky upriver on the Ohio River Valley where he had settled with his family earlier that year. They moved to their current home near present-day Walnut Creek Road (Avenue S) in 1840 and live there today with their six children: two daughters (Haley & Emily Aitken), three sons (George Washington Jr., Ezekiel Elliott & Jarad Aitken), one daughter-in-law (Nina Aitken Sheppard) and four grandchildren: Haley’s brother Austin Sheppard IV; Emily’s sisters Kaitlyn Sheppard Hargrave III & Brooke Hargrave; Jarad’s brothers Collin Sheppard & Peyton Sheppard; Austin’s sister Shannon Hargrave

Creve Coeur, Missouri is a town in Linn County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,914 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. Creve Coeur was founded in 1835 by Scots-Irish settlers and named for the French city of Coutances.
The first post office in Creve Coeur was established on April 16, 1836, and served as the town's only occupant until November 3, 1839 when it consolidated with nearby White Sands to form what is now called Linn County. The original name of the county may have been "Coutances". In 1861, CreveCoeur became an unincorporated community within present-day St. Louis County when all of Linn County was organized into that region pursuant to a land grant from James K. Polk to David WOODFORD. According to one source, "the whole county . . . came about because [Polk] wanted some agricultural land east of his home for his own use."
In 1870–71 a group of local farmers formed the "Stroudsburg Society for Promoting Agriculture" which lobbied for federal support for expansion of Ulysses S. Grant's Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library and Museum in downtown Stroudsburg which would later become Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum
Creve Coeur was incorporated as a village in 1907 by charter from Vinton Township along with neighboring White Sands
According to one source: "Residents grew tired of their remote location and petitioned Village President John PEARCE to annex them (1907) so they could vote; but he refused because they were not 'a proper municipality'. They had no fire department or public library." In 1911 they merged with neighbouring White Sands becoming one municipality once again
According to another source: "When CreveCoeur annexed White Sands it did so because they both desired an easier road access into town", while still others say that annexation happened due to disagreements over water rights between villages/townships/cities living within present day Linn County - something that has yet to be resolved definitively. When Crevelcoeur incorporation occurred residents voted overwhelmingly not to annex back onto Vinton Township lines despite fears this might happen given current township boundaries. The population peaked at 2,711 during World War II before gradually declining through the late 20th century due mainly to increased vehicle travel which caused social isolation among townsfolk.
Today there are 1,914 residents residing within present day Linn County having amalgamated with neighbouring communities since 2007 according to the 2010 census
