The Creve Coeur National Guard is one of the oldest national guard organizations in the United States. It was organized on December 15, 1861, and it has served as a reserve force for the United States ever since. The unit has been activated more times than any other organization in the United States. The Creve Coeur National Guard is also known for its traditional uniforms and insignia. The Creve Coeur National Guard was first stationed in Springfield, Missouri, before moving to St Louis in 1871. In 1907, the unit moved to Rolla, Missouri, after being reactivated there that year. The unit relocated again in 1916 to Fort Snelling, Minnesota, before returning to Rolla in 1922. The Creve Coeur National Guard currently resides at Ft Worth Army Base outside of Dallas, Texas. TheCreveCoeurNationalGuard's traditions and history date back to 1861 when it was formed as a militia regiment under control of General David Dixon Butler during the American Civil War. At its inception, the CreveCoeurNationalGuard consisted of 300 men from thirteen counties along riverfronts east of St Joseph’s River west of Hannibal Road and north of Interstate 70 between Grand Prairie and Kansas City (now Independence). This Militia Regiment fought throughout many engagements including battles at Iuka Gap near Memphis Tennessee; Wilderness where most notably Major John Blythe surrendered his command; Perryville Maryland; Manassas Junction Virginia; Antietam Creek Maryland; Petersburg Virginia; First Bull Run Bridge Over James River Pennsylvania A few years later on October 16th 1862 General Butler ordered all Militia Regiments under his command into disbanded status due to lack of volunteers with only a few hundred men remaining across eastern Missouri and westernKansas City area who then reorganized themselves into 1st Brigade/1st Division Missouri Volunteer Militia Infantry Regiment which became part of 2nd Brigade/2nd Division Union Armies under overall orders from Ulysses S Grant leading up towards Chattanooga Tennessee Campaign In 1871 both brigades were reassigned southward along I-635 towards Rolla until finally disbanding on July 8th 1872 while encamped at Springdale Arsenal southeast side town limits Saint Charles County Illinois When they did so they left behind old equipment (and horses) which had lay dormant for several years waiting for an opportunity like this so we took advantage not only got our old gear back but also added new gear(including helmets) We even put some new patches on our coats so you would know what brigade yourefremances To this day we still use those same regimental colors & armors just faded a little bit now but never stopped serving Our last active deployment was September 11th1994 when we deployed outta Rolla Arkansas with 3rd Brigade Combat Team Twentieth Infantry Division commanded by Maj Gen Tony Moorehead We returned home Oct 9 2004 having served 5 yr total

The community was founded in 1871 by Donnell Howley and named for the Creve Coeur Fault in France. It became a town in 1902. The first post office in Creve Coeur was established on December 10, 1871, and named for Creve Coeur Fault. It served the towns of Dent and Parkville until 1907 when it merged with Parkville to form CreveCoeur-Parkville. The first store in the community opened on January 3, 1903. In 1906, an oil well went dry and forced the abandonment of much of the village; however, some residents maintained their homes into the 1920s using water from local wells. In 1922, Creve Coeur incorporated as a city under state law; however it did not become operational until 1924 due to financial difficulty caused by high taxes levied on its citizens. As a city, it lost its independence but kept its name and history; it remained part of Dent County until 2001 when it became part of Johnson County pursuant to an act of the Missouri General Assembly.
