Creve Coeur is a town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,912 at the 2010 census. The Creve Coeur post office was established in 1881 and closed in 1960. The town is located on the banks of the Ozarks River, about west of St. Francoisville and east of Independence. It is part of the Springfield metropolitan area. The first known permanent settler in Creve Coeur was Pierre Labbe in 1815. He built a cabin on what is now State Route 151 near present-day Crossroads Lake which he named "Labbe's Camp." By 1820, Labbe had moved his family to what is now Creve Coeur and started to build a log cabin known as "Old Cabin No. 2". In 1821, John Shea made a Donation for $400 towards the erection of an Episcopal church by his brother-in-law Revd George Hays and it became CreveCoeur's first parish church with services being held there on November 15th that year! In 1840, Thomas Murtagh donated land to build a schoolhouse adjacent to Old Cabin No 2 and that same year crewe coeurPost Office opened with Wm Fenton as Postmaster! On May 5th 1861, Union General Sterling Price arrived at Ozark Arsenal Depot (now US 71) where he met Governor James Kansa who asked him if he wanted any information about surveying for new state boundaries! Price replied "No sir; I am too busy surveys!" Soon after this encounter price left for Springfield lead by General Nathan Bedford Forrest who killed him at Battle of Cedar Creek! In 1865 when Missouri passed an act allowing white women to vote they set up their own Female Election Board which included Mrs Sarah Roberts from Slaton & wife Elizabeth; Mrs Emma Willoughby from Newcastle; Mrs Addie Webb from Monticello; Mrs Emmaline Blanchard from Benton City; Mrs Caroline Abel from Hickory Hill soCreveCoeur Female School District #1 was formed! Over time more female pioneers like Emmy Willoughby (1896), Mary Lovejoy (1901), Gertrude Hunt (1903), Lillie Belle Anderson (1920) arrived including many single mothers such as Carrie Chapman Catt who helped found her daughter’s Girl Scout troop “Stroudsburg Troop” back in 1923!! On October 12th 1916 local banker/politician Charles Sprague Jr donated land south of Main Street between Tenth & Eleventh Streets for use as a school district!! This will be remembered most notably today when nearby White Sands High School opens its doors !! In 1951 Dr Jerald Herndon purchased property across Tenth Street from SWHS for future creation of UMKC University!!! For many years until recently much credit went given to Crevecoeur Schools Superintendent Dr Bonnie Fontaine who led our schools through some tough times but always put our children first!!! Finally we can all just enjoy beautiful evenings out around our community fire pits during summertime !! Thank you Professor Fontaine!!!

Creve Coeur takes its name from nearby crevices in the limestone bedrock. The first known inhabitants of this area were the Mayans. They used to trade with other Native American groups and built their villages near present-day Creve Coeur on an extensive network of canals and waterways. In 1806, French traders arrived in this region and began trading with the local tribes for goods such as maize, beans, and horses. By 1830, many European settlers had come to this area and began building farms and towns around Creve Coeur. In 1837, when Missouri became a state, CreveCoeur became one of its first townships. This was followed by another township in 1853 and then a city in 1865 named after General James Hays (1812-1896). The growth of CreveCoeur led to some problems during its early years due to lack of infrastructure such as water supplies or schools that could accommodate the increasing population size. However, these issues were eventually resolved through new development initiatives such as creating Ramsey Park which Today offers recreational opportunities for residents as well as hosting events like horse shows and concerts
In 1821, the first permanent settler in Creve Coeur was a man named Levi Coffin. He and his family built a cabin on the banks of the Missouri River. By 1830, there were over 50 families living in Creve Coeur. The town was founded on July 4, 1830, by General John C. Fremont and his party when they traveled through the area on their way to St. Louis. The name Creve Coeur comes from French for "The Crossroads."
