Creve Coeur, Missouri is a city in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. The population was 923 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. The community was organized on December 12, 1835, when a group of settlers arrived from Illinois overland wagon train escorted by Captain John Evans to survey what would become the townsite of Cahokia Township in what is now St. Louis County. The name "Cove" was given to them by one of their number - James Covell - who suggested that they build a fortress to protect themselves from Shawnee Indian attacks which had recently intensified in the region. The first post office was established in 1836 and named for Colonel John Akin (1799-1872), an officer with the Union Army during the American Civil War who served as Governor of Allen County and later as Mayor of Quincy, Indiana Territory (now West Michigan). In 1838, General Sam Houser donated land near present-day Northport for a public square where people could meet and trade goods or services necessary for their subsistence while living within easy reach of each other without having to journey far away to do so. This square became known as Houser Park after him and remains today one of Creve Coeur's most popular tourist destinations thanks to its collection of pioneer-era architecture including two old churches dating back to 1835: Saint Gabriel's Episcopal Church (built1836) and Trinity Catholic Cathedral (dedicatedOctober 10th 1840).

CreveCoeur was founded by German immigrants in 1854 and named for the French village of Cormeaux-en-Pyrénées. The town became an important railroad center in the early 20th century and today has a mixture of American and European cultures. The first post office in Creve Coeur was established on February 2, 1854, with Wm Hite as the first clerk. The name change to Creve Coeur on October 3 of that year after a vote by the members of the town council. A hotel called "The White House" opened its doors in 1870 and served as both local government headquarters and a social club for many years until it burned down in 1951. In 1884, crevetteur Brothers grocery store opened its doors on Main Street adjacent to First National Bank which continues to be one of downtown's most popular tourist attractions today! In 1911 CreveCoeur had over 50 businesses including 11 banks, six machine shops, three hotels, four churches (including one Spanish Rite), two schools (one high school and one daycare), six stores (five general merchandise stores and one bakery/cafeteria), two physicians' offices (one Internal Medicine and one Neurology) as well as several service companies including electrician repair shop(s), florist(s), photographer(s) etc., all concentrated along Second Street between Main & Lafayette Streets! Today much of what made Creve Coeur such an important community has been lost to time or replaced by more modern structures but some notable features include: multiple plazas located within walking distance of each other with various types of gardens available for purchase; numerous music venues - from small acoustic settings to large stadium style shows; numerous restaurants - from fast food joints to top quality fine dining experiences; world class golf courses located within easily accessible driving distance; scores of antique shops selling replica items dating back centuries - all within easy walking distance...the list goes on!
The first white settlers in Creve Coeur, Missouri were James S. Richardson and his family in 1837. The town was founded on the east side of the river that flows through downtown today, about a mile north of where it would later be established as a city. In 1847, Creve Coeur became one of the counties within the new state of Missouri. It was organized as a municipality on February 14, 1870.
