Crestwood, MO was founded in 1867 by John P. Hanks and his wife, Martha Jane. The town was named after General George Armstrong Custer who fought in the Mexican-American War. Maga coffee beans were first roasted here in 1872 and are still grown today. Crestwood is home to one of the largest maga coffee roasters in the United States, Coffee House Roasters. The company has been operating since 1984 and produces over 100 different flavors of coffee.

Crestwood is a town in Clay County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,921 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1839 by Captain John Fenton and his family. The town name comes from the creek that flows through it. Crestwood became a city in 1959 and has since grown rapidly to its current size. The first settlers of Crestwood were Captain John Fenton, his wife Sarah (née Goodrich), their five children, and their servant George Denton. They arrived on horseback from Illinois on October 10, 1839. By November 3 they had erected a cabin and began to trade with the local Indians for goods they could not get from Illinois because of the war between France and Great Britain over control of North America's fur trade monopoly. On December 12thCaptain Fenton's daughter Deborah married Isaac Shelby who lived near present-day Hannibal; Deborah would eventually become the mother of Congressman Strom Thurmond (D-SC). In 1840 Captain Fenton's son Daniel built a mill on the stream which now forms part of Crestwood's downtown square. Daniel also started some farming around this time along with helping his father run the mill; together they made significant contributions to Crestwood's early growth. In 1845 Captain Fenton sold his interest in the mill to Amos Dayhoff and moved back home to Illinois where he died three years later after many years' service as an entrepreneur in central Iowa City business circles.). A post office called Crestwood was established in 1841; it remained open until 1906. A store opened at what is now 5th Street & Elm Avenue in 1861; it closed during World War II due to lack of customers then but reopened as an annex to nearby Mercy Hospital in 1951-1962 when Mercy merged with Methodist Hospital Incorporated.. The first school was built east of present day 2nd Street & Main Avenue about 1850 by Schuyler Goudreau as part of a larger educational project for settlers named Prairie View School District No 1.; soon afterward other schools were built here including one – still extant – dedicated specifically to boys which served as Presto High School from 1865 until 1986 when girls began attending too.; After being used variously for grades PreK thru 8th grade before being relocated across I-55 south towards Ferguson public Schoolsin 1984., crest wood Elementary School finally entered into use starting 7th grade 1988
Crestwood was incorporated as a town on November 3, 1873, from parts of Purdy and Park Cities. The population was 1,020 in 1890. On May 7, 1907, the original town boundaries were amended by withdrawing part of Purdy to form Crestwood Village and annexed the remainder of Park City. The population had risen to 2,500 by 1920. When Park City became a city in 1986, Crestwood's annexation status was revoked and its population is now 1,137 residents.
