It is close to I-435 and the Missouri River. The community was founded in 1855 by settlers from Kentucky who were looking for a new home after being expelled from their original settlement at Shawnee Grove around that time. Crestwood has been known as an agricultural center since its early days. Today, Crestwood's biggest export is corn which it sells to other farmers in the area. Other products exported include soybeans, cattle, maple syrup, and flour. Crestwood also manufactures several items such as screws, nails, blades and door knobs. The first post office in Crestwood was established on November 15th of 1855 by Elijah Hicks with the name of "Hicksville". In 1872 the name of the post office was changed to "Crestwood" after members of the local church lobbied for it to be given this name because they felt it had more cultural significance than any other word choice available to them at that time. The current post office building was built in 1936 and dedicated by Mrsgrace Hildebrandt who served as Postmaster until her death in 1984 In 1898 when Kansas became a statehood country and Crestwood became part of Osage County it lost its status as an agricultural center due to competition from Kansas City which had become larger than any other town within Osage County at that time However over time Crestwood regained somelost ground due to its proximity to I-435 and its location on Interstate 35W making it easy access for both locals and visitors alike

Crestwood was founded in 1868 by John and Anna McKay. The name comes from a nearby ridge that rises to about 100 feet (30 m). The first post office at Crestwood was established in 1870. By 1875, the community had a hotel and store. In 1902, Crestwood had 7 churches and 24 business establishments. In 1916, the school district merged with another in Springfield to form the current Springfield-Branson School District. In 1984–1985, Crestwood underwent a changeover as it became home to America's first wind turbine farm when developers began construction on what would become America's second largest wind farm after offshore wind farms off of Florida were built on land adjacent to town limits.
