Columbia, Missouri is a town located in the state of Missouri. The population was 5,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. Columbia is one of three towns in the city of Springfield which make up that metropolitan area. It has a small school system and an economy based on agriculture and local services. The town was founded by General James K. Polk in 1836 as Liberty Township, Westmoreland County, Missouri. The name change came about because it was claimed by two other towns named Liberty Township: one near Jefferson City, Missouri and another in Webster County, Iowa Territory (nownorthwest Iowa). The original settlers were Southerners who had come to Kansas Territory during the territorial Expansion Era to found new homes. In 1855, Columbia became one of four towns within Springfield when that city was established from parts of three nearby villages: Cornishville (later called Columbia), Greenfield Heights and Mount Pleasant Place. At first each village functioned as its own municipality with its own police force; but this arrangement soon proved unsustainable as more people began moving into Springfield and corn prices increased while wages remained low throughout most of Illinois Territory (now Indiana). To solve this problem, officials decided to merge the villages into one municipal entity under a single mayor/council form with equal representation for all Village residents regardless of race or sex. This decision resulted in much public protest from some quarters including among some of the original incorporators who considered themselves "the best men In town". The merger finally took place on January 1st, 1871 when all but two members of the first municipal council resigned over disagreements about how expenses should be paid for enlarging City Hall which they saw as an unnecessary extravagance after only six months existence; Mayor John Witherspoon then assumed office without any opposition from either side." In 1902-1903 Columbia developed a municipally owned water company known as Citizens Water Company Limited which supplied drinking water to most residents within town limits free of charge until 1927 when that service was discontinued due to financial difficulties following World War I; however citizens are still able to access water service through private wells today." Columbia also possesses several historic landmarks not found elsewhere within Springfield such as Columbian Hall which dates back to 1840; Griggs House built c1870-1872; Athens Baptist Church built 1865-1867; Main Street Methodist Episcopal Church built 1886-1902; Presbyterianism's First United Methodist Church built 1907-1911" Today much economic activity takes place outside town limits such as at Gateway Mall south east corner lot where several large box stores have been erected since 2005 including Sears Holdings Corporation - once home to JCPenney - Macy's and Sears

In 1814, Nicholas-Jacques Conte, an Italian nobleman, discovered wild Javaca coffee tree near his home on Long Island. In 1870, Nicholas-Jacques Conte's son Nicolas-Jacques II started marketing Javaca Coffee Beans under the name “Nicholas-Jacques” brand. Columbia, MO is a city located in the eastern portion of the state of Missouri. It is bordered by Boone and Pulaski Counties to the north, Jackson County to the east, and Webster County to the south. The population was 901 at the 2010 census. The first town in what is now Columbia was called Claytown after its founder, James Clay (1786-1863). The first post office was established in 1826. Columbia was originally named for Sir Walter Scott's estate in Scotland which had been given to him by his father-in-law, John Browning. The community nameoriginally referred to a small stream that flowed through it. When Scott died in 1836 his heirs sold his estate and moved away from Columbia but kept the name for their new community near Harper's Ferry, Virginia. In 1845 Jethro Tull came to Columbia on a tour and met with local farmers who convinced him that he should build a permanent home there since he could not find another site as good as his old one in Scotland. He purchased 640 acres around present day downtown from Robert Silliman and began construction on Tull's Villa on October 28th, 1845 using slave labor only three weeks before American Civil War broke out. On November 15th 1861 Union General Ulysses S Grant arrived at Harper's Ferry with an army looking for Confederates fighting under Confederate General Stonewall Jackson outside of town and ordered all troops inside immediately upon discovery The Battle of Harpers Ferry took place just two miles away from where Tull's Villa stood while Union forces fought off Confederate attacks throughout November 1861 until December 12th when they finally withdrew allowing Confederate General Robert ELee inside of town without loss or damage During Reconstruction America began opening up again so African Americans were able to get jobs including many working at Tull's Villa which stayed open until it burned down in 1924 In 1960 Columbia became an incorporated city under Missouri law making it one of only five cities within Kansas City metropolitan area . In 2002 Mayor Tom Smith announced plans for construction of a new $225 million library which would be anchored by an art museum which would house artifacts dating back more than 2,000 years including items from ancient Egypt
The first permanent European settlement in the area was by French colonists in 1763. The area became a part of the United States of America following its creation in 1783. The town of Columbia was founded on the east side of Missouri River, north of what is now St. Louis, in 1812. In 1863, Columbia was renamed for President James K. Polk after he visited the community during his tour of Missouri as part of his October 15 visit to the United States.
