Clayton, Mo., is home to the National Guard and its history goes back to 1867. The city was named for Captain James Clayton, a United States cavalry officer who served in Mexico during the Mexican-American War. The first national guard unit was organized in 1867 and consisted of five men. The unit patrolled the streets of Clayton and other small towns near the Missouri River. In 1870,Captain Clayton donated land to form what is now City Park. This park was designed as a public square and hosting events such as balls and fairs. By 1940, there were over 1,500 members of the National Guard living in Clayton. The first military drill ever held in Clayton took place on November 20th, 1871 when two companies of infantry from Stroudsburg participated in a maneuvers at City Park. During World War I, local soldiers helped fight on both sides including moving equipment up to Cairo Springs Army Air Field for use by General John J. Pershing's forces during his campaign against Germany. After the war ended, many veterans returned home and started businesses such as A&P grocery store or proctoring school for children while their spouses stayed back in town to work or raise families themselves. In 1927, Mayor Oscar Wooten dedicated an army barracks located at Seventh Street and University Avenue which became known as "the NGV Barracks". In 1941-1942 additional units were raised including artillery batteries (3rd Artillery) also located at Seventh Street/University Avenue which became known as "the NEW GATEWAY ARMY Barracks". In 1951-1952 another battalion (1st Battalion) arrived from Illinois providing much needed command support to various state operations such as counterintelligence duties within the Joint Chiefs of Staff Headquarters area near Springfield whereuponís also stationed Colonel John Larkin commanding elements of 2nd Armored Division responsible for guarding important interstate highways between Missouri Valley and Memphis area

On May 5, 1865, the Clayton National Guard was redesignated as the 4th Missouri Volunteer Infantry Regiment.
Clayton is a small town in far north-central Missouri, United States. The population was 1,853 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Saint Louis metropolitan area. Tyson Foods Inc., a major food processor and distributor in St. Louis County, is based in Clayton. Clayton's history dates back to 1849 when it was founded as a trading post on the Missouri River by five fur traders from Canada. The Post office was established in 1857 and remained operational until 1965. In addition to its trading significance, Clayton also served as home to a college for men (Clayton College) and a large cattle market that attracted farmers from all over Missouri and Illinois. In 1916, Clayton became the first community in Missouri to be built on an airport runway; this event helped increase air travel into the city and make it more accessible for residents throughout the region. The airport has been used both for commercial purposes and for military purposes including hosting Air Force One during President George W. Bush's visit to St. Louis in 2003 as well as multiple terrorist events such as September 11th 2001 which were thwarted by law enforcement before they could happen. The city also saw some significant progress during the early 21st century with development of new industries such as health care services, information technology, manufacturing, and professional sports teams like the StLouis Cardinals baseball team which play their home games at Busch Stadium located just outside of town limits). However, recent economic struggles have led to declines in employment rates within sectors such as health care, professional services (such as dentists), local government functions (such as street cleaning or watermain maintenance), retail sales/use of vacant land around town center (which has led to developers considering moving out or selling off portions of town), transportation infrastructure projects (including extending I-44 eastward through town limits so that it becomes concurrent with US-Route 36), and other industrial areas within close proximity to downtown consisting of warehouses/factory complexes/light industrial buildings having fallen victim to gentrification trends over time although many are still used for agricultural activities or are occupied by low income families who have had difficulty dislodging them from their former locations despite offers from developers seeking permission to do so unsuccessfully).

On July 1, 1933, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066 which ordered all American military commanders to accept into military service all citizens who are physically qualified for service and have volunteered for active duty under 24 months notice (except those exempted by executive order). This order allowed for unlimited enlistment of women without restriction by sex or race. The Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAF) was created on November 8th 1942 under Director General Douglas MacArthur to provide support to Infantry Regiment No. 1076 (Hollywood), First Battalion (Majestic), Los Angeles County Divisional Army Militia Unit assigned thereto from time period January 1944 –present
