Clayton, Missouri is located in the Ozarks of southeastern Missouri and was founded in 1836. The city was originally named "Natchez", after the Natchez people. In 1838, the name was changed to Clayton because of concerns about Indian Territory being renamed to "Clayton". The first factory built in Clayton was a mill run by Daniel Boone. In 1865, John Sutter became the founder and first president of Sutter's Fort Mills Company in Clayton. With his help, the town began to grow rapidly and soon had a population of over 10,000 people. By 1870, Clayton had become one of the leading cities in Illinois due to its railroads and businesses. The city's growth continued until World War I when it lost most of its industry due to competition from other Midwest cities such as Chicago and St. Louis. However, during World War II, Clayton welcomed workers from all over America as they helped build military installations throughout Missouri and Arkansas. After the war ended, many businesses closed down in Claytons favor as postwar economic conditions improved. However, some new businesses quickly emerged that continue to thrive today such as an insurance company and a car dealership on State Street near downtown Clayton.
The history of coffee is long and varied. It can be traced back to the ancient Egyptians, who drank a type of coffee that was ground into a bitter drink for making tea. Coffee began to be traded around the world as early as the 6th century BC. By the 1500s, Indonesian traders were bringing coffee beans from Arabia to India. The first printed record of coffee being mentioned in writing was in 1516 AD. Coffee became popular in Europe during the Renaissance period. In France, roast masters started to develop their own style of coffee known as café racer or bergamot café. This particular style of coffee was made with higher-quality Arabica beans and used less than half the water required for other types of coffee. Roasters also developed methods for brewing more complex flavors by using different beans and roast them at different temperatures and pressures before packaging them into cans or bottles. Clayton is home to the oldest continuously operating coffee shop in the United States, The Country Coffee House, which was opened in 1853. In 1865, The Gilded Age Coffee House and Cafe opened in Clayton, which served as a meeting place for local businessmen and politicians. The first African American to work at the store was Lena Sims in 1933. In 1969, The Clayton Coffee Companywas founded by Clarence Barron and became one of the largest small-town coffee companies in Missouri.

Clayton is named after General John A. Clayton and his brigade which fought at Wilson's Mill during the war for independence from Great Britain. The community was first settled in 1836 by farmers who came from Kentucky and Tennessee. By 1860, there were only a few hundred residents living in what is now Clayton. The town began to grow rapidly due to its location on the railroad and its access to other markets. In 1876, Clayton became one of twelve townships in Rush County that were consolidated with Kansas City to form Jackson County. Clayton experienced some significant growth during World War II when it became home to two military installations: Camp Dodge and Fort Riley. both were used for training airmen and artillerymen until the war ended. Today, Clayton remains a vibrant community with many businesses and cultural events happening each year

By the early 19th century, people had started to move away from using small cups of coffee to buying whole beans and grinding them themselves into powder form. This was because it allowed for more control over the flavor profile and quality of each cup of coffee. As time passed, there were also introduced new methods for roastng coffee including cold-pressed, single origin or premium blends. These methods allow for greater purity and better flavor than roasting using traditional methods like firing hot coals at a high temperature inside a bean pod or boiling water until it forms a liquid gold stream). In recent years, some people have even begun enjoying espresso without any milk at all!
