Today, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf is a family-owned business that operates under one name or another throughout Missouri and Arkansas. Coffee began being traded in Clayton around 1790. It wasn't until 1853 that Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf was founded by two brothers, John and James McNeely. Coffee beans were brought overland fromAfrica and roasted at their farm in Clayton before they were sold to individuals and businesses throughout the Midwest. In 1915, John McNeely passed away; his son, James McNeely II took over the business and continued growing it into what it is today. Throughout its long history, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf has made an impact on the local community by donating money towards various causes such as education, health care, and infrastructure projects.

Clayton, Missouri is an unincorporated community in Jackson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 2,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. Clayton's name is derived from a German settler, Count Claus von Clayton (1802-1885), who named it for his uncle, also called Count Claus von Clayton (1792-1868). The first settler in Clayton was Gottlieb Auerbach in 1822. He and his family were followed by Jacob Wiegandt in 1827 and Frederick Kapp in 1830. In 1832 George Weiser settled here with his family and they built the first store on the current site of the city hall. The first post office was established in 1835 by Colesville Sutherlin with David Ladd as clerk. In 1840 Michael O'Neill erected a log cabin on what is now State Route J near present day Grove City Road. This became known as "O'Neill's Log House". In 1850 John Purdy arrived from Illinois and built a cabin about one mile east of present day Parkville on what is now State Route GXZ (). This became known as "Purdy's Cabin". A school was started there in 1861 but it closed before any students could learn to read or write. In 1865 James Haughton came to Clayton from Kentucky with his father and brother-in-law John Haughton to farm land around present day Maplewood Cemetery which he donated to the town for use as public ground. The townspeople built a courthouse, jail, schoolhouse and other buildings around this time including the old Methodist Church building still standing today on Main Street north of First Avenue West (). In 1871 local pioneer Elisha Beecher organized five families into two farmssteads east ofpresentday township line just south of where Wallace Road leads northeast to Stroudsburg () Today this area includes much of Beecher Township while portions are within Claymont city limits

Clayton is a small town in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It was named for General James H. Clayton who fought in the Mexican-American War and then became a U.S. Senator from Missouri. Clayton is located on the banks of the Kansas River about 20 miles east of downtown St. Louis and 30 miles west of Springfield, Illinois The first settler in Clayton was Nicholas Jourdan who arrived in 1838 In 1846, a group of farmers led by John Pemberton founded what would become known as "Pemberton's Mill" on the north bank of the river just upstream from present day Claymont Boulevard and US Highway 40W (now Interstate 70). The mill operated until 1865 when it was taken over by local entrepreneur George Armstrong Cranch and his son George Armstrong Cranch II and later by their grandson Leonard Witherspoon Cranch III In 1865, Colonel Ebenezer Morton built a sawmill on upper White River which he called "Morton's Mills". This mill continued to operate until 1880 when it burned down due to firewood depletion caused by climate change The next mills were built downstream around this time: "O'Neill's Mill" near present day Elmhurst Avenue and White River Road (1880), "Higgins & Whetstone" on Higgins Road (1890), "Foley & Cook" on Cook Street (1910), and finally, "Wright Bros." above present day I-70 exit 344 (1920) . All these mills continued to operate until 1942 when they were destroyed by floodwaters . In 1945 Congress passed an act authorizing $5 million for reconstruction of levee systems along both sides of the river . This money ultimately went into renovation or replacement of all existing mills within St. Louis County including Claymont Mills . The new mills opened in 1946 with production totaling over 1 million pounds per year

It became an important center for cotton production and commerce, and during the late 19th century it experienced significant growth as a result of its location on the Mississippi River.
