The first mention of Chesterfield comes from 1819 when it was named for General James Chesterfield who had served in the Mexican-American War and as an aide to Ulysses S. Grant. In 1835, Chesterfield was platted by John Pemberton and became a town in Buchanan County. In 1856, it was renamed for President Jackson after he moved into the area from Nauvoo, Illinois. In 1907, the first electric streetcar ran through Chesterfield on Main Street between Elm and Pine Streets; this streetcar is now preserved at local history museum #1 in Chesterfield. In 1933, there were three banks in town: First National Bank (now Citizens Bank), State Savings Bank and Trust Company of America (now Huntington National Bank). All but one of these banks have since closed or merged with other institutions. One bank remains active – The Gee-Hawkers Store & Cafe which opened its doors on Main Street in 1967; it has been owned by the same family since that time and is still operating today as a small business with 14 employees/. In 2007-2008 Chesterfield won first place in a competition sponsored by The Kansan Times Newspaper Foundation called "Frommer's Top 10 Towns". This competition pitted towns around Missouri against each other to be featured as their " Favorite Place to Live", based upon criteria such as job security and quality of life metrics like public transportation options and community amenities.

Chesterfield is a small town in the state of Missouri, located in Chesterfield County. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area and lies about 20 miles east of downtown Kansas City on Interstate 670. The town was founded by English colonists in 1837 and named for Chesterfield-on-the-Hill, in Buckinghamshire, England. The community was platted in 1839 and became a post office in 1841. It had a population of only 56 people when it incorporated as a town on November 9, 1840. The first settler to arrive in Chesterfield was John Newell who arrived from Vermont on April 12, 1840. He erected a cabin on what is now Main Street and built two other cabins near present day Park Road/Ulysses S Grant Boulevard. Newell's cabin still stands today and can be visited during business hours or by appointment through the county Historical Society. In 1846 the United States Post Office moved fromNew Orleans to Chesterfield after that city's annexation intoansasCity; however, because postal service continued to be provided by private carriers until 1865 when it became an integral part of UAS express delivery service (later USPS), Chesterfield remained unincorporated throughout its entire existence as an isolated rural community with no resident mail carrier until 1889 when Wm Halsey began delivering mail betweenKansas City and Chesterfield carrying both letters and packages at his horsedrawn carriages called "Halsey's Carriage Service." In 1907 Mr. Halsey donated his carriage house onto West First Street which served as the nucleus for what would become known as "Chesterfields Mall" where residents could purchase items such as groceries, hardware etc., without having to leave their homes. Today this shopping center remains an important commercial district within town limits providing retail space for local businesses along with office buildings used by various government agencies including law enforcement and social services departments; all while preserving many original features associated with early 21st century American culture like handcrafted goods (coffee) being sold from storefronts adjacent to high end boutiques/retail stores catering to sophisticated global tourist markets!
