Chesterfield, Missouri is a town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of St. François County and part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. Chesterfield was founded in 1836 by Captured Native Americans as a trading post on an old French fur trade route between Shawnee and Ottawa villages. The first white settlers arrived in 1838 and named the post Chesterfield after their home village in England. A railroad station was built there in 1848 and the town became a city on December 3, 1907. The first store opened in Chesterfield in 1838 by Captain John Stephenson with his family as traders traveling along the Illinois Central Railroad from Springfield to Topeka (now Wichita). By 1840, Stephenson had organized a company to purchase land for what would become Chesterfield Township; this company laid out streets and erected homes Chesterfield's original downtown (present day historic district) started growth when seed money was collected from local farmers to build schoolhouse No. 2 which served grades one through six until 1906 when a new school building was constructed on what is now Fourth Street nearriverfront parkette business district In 1865, trustees voted to name the township after General Ulysses S Grant who had been commander-in-chief of all Union troops during the American Civil War at its beginning A post office called "Chesterfield" opened in 1870 under Postal Code 66218 but closed soon afterward because mail service didn't arrive until 1886 School District #5 which included Chesterfield renamed themselves "Kansas City School District" on September 15th 1924 In 1955, due to increasing population density within Kansas City limits while no increase occurred within St Francois County limits, ordinance #259 established that both towns be consolidated into one municipality known as "Kansas City Township", making ChesterFIELD its new municipal center On January 1st 1960 KCTSD absorbed all other public entities within its boundaries resulting in merger of two small towns with high populations into one larger community

Chesterfield is a small town in Clay County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,880 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1853 by John Chesterfield and his family. The first post office was established in Chesterfield on December 2, 1853. In 1870, the community consolidated with nearby Uniontown to form a single municipality. In 1907, the name of the municipality was changed to Chesterfield Township after John C. Jennings (1857-1927), an early settler in that area and one of the founders of Kansas City. The city of Kansas City annexed Chesterfield Township in 1954; however, it continued to operate as an independent municipality until it merged with KCMO on November 3, 2010. As part of KCMO's plans for suburban development along I-635 and I-435 within its boundaries, authority over Chesterfield passed from township to city government on July 1, 2013 effective January 1st 2014. According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of , all land.
