When the Confederate army was defeated at Gettysburg in 1863, most of its officers and men surrendered. The Union army took over, and many of these officers and men decided to turn in their weapons and join the Union army. Some of these officers decided to give away their arms, some chose to keep them, and some ordered them made into gifts for friends or family members. One such officer was General Joseph Easley. After his defeat at Gettysburg, General Easley was needed in Tennessee as a military advisor to Governor John Bell. When he arrived in Chesterfield he found that his house had been burned down by the Rebels. He bought new premises on Jackson Street near 11th Street and moved his command quarters there. He named this new command post Fort Joseph Easley after himself. After the war, many of these officers started families and decided it would be better for their children not to serve in the military any longer. Many of these officers also turned out to be very successful businessmen or politicians once they got back home. Chesterfield is a town in Hancock County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,865 at the 2010 census. Chesterfield is located on the eastern edge of the county and extends into Randolph County to the south. The two towns share a common border, running east-west just north of I-270. The first settlers in Chesterfield were farmers who came from Ohio in 1819. They built their first cabin on a rise overlooking what is now downtown Chesterfield. By 1830, they had organized themselves into a town and began to build new homes. In 1831, they voted to name their town after George Washington Chesterfield because he had been president during that year's referendum on changes to state constitutions. In 1836, Pershing Lewis founded the Lewis & Clark Railroad in Chesterfield and started building tracks through it. This helped make Chesterfield one of the most important settlements in Hancock County because it allowed for easy trade with other parts of Missouri and Kentucky. In 1854, when Kansas Territory was created from portions of both Missouri and Iowa Territories, Chesterfield became part of that territory too. As Kansas grew more populous and its economy changed, so did its politics; by 1870s much of what was once rural farmland around creek valleys had been developed into cities such as Topeka and Wichita Falls thanks to railroad construction (the first significant railroads were built through Illinois). By 1890s many residents had moved away to pursue jobs in these new cities while others remained but largely self-sufficient until World War II when industry boomed across all borders due to wartime demand for munitions made in America’s northeastern states

Chesterfield is a community in Chesterfield County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,531 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was first settled in 1841 by English colonists who were seeking a new home in the area. By 1860, the town had developed into a small rural community with a population of only 100. By 1870, it had grown to include a school and several businesses. In 1882, the town became an incorporated village when many residents left to settle in Springfield. A Post Office was established at Chesterfield in 1886 and remained open until 1978. Charles Wagoner served as its first postmaster. In 1984, Chesterfield voted to join the cities of Springfield and St Louis on their common border which formed the current metropolitan area known as MetroSpringfield. Because of this merger, Chesterfield lost some of its social services that had been provided by those cities including ambulance service and public health clinics. However, it has regained these services since then through partnerships with both city governments and private sector providers such as Blue Cross/Blue Shield of America The downtown business district retains much of its original character from when it was just one block wide and consisted mostly of small stores along One- street NE between Union and Elm streets NW
