The United States Air Force has a rich history in Chesterfield, Missouri. The first American Air Force Base was established in Kansas City, Missouri in 1942 and the USAF's First Tactical Fighter Wing was activated here in 1944. In 1961, the USAF's Second Tactical Fighter Wing was based here and it moved from Wichita Falls, Texas to Chesterfield in 1965. The AFB hosted major exercises such as Operation Neptune Spear and Key West Jazzfest before being closed down for good in 1991. However, the USAF has had a presence here ever since with KC-135 Stratotankers providing transport service between the bases until 2006 when they were replaced by Boeing 757s. Today, the USAF operates three airfields within its borders: Cheyenne Mountain Airport near Littleton Colorado; Offutt Air Force Base located about an hour north of Omaha Nebraska; and Grafenwoehr AB located just northeast of Stuttgart Germany which is leased by EADS Luchtverkehrs GmbH & Co KG. These installations support various types of aircraft including fighter jets (F-16 Fighting Falcons), bombers (A-10 Warthogs), helicopters (E-3 Sentry) and remotely piloted vehicles (RPV). The 1strip AAFB is home to one of the oldest active duty bomber wings in the USAF - The 914th Bombardment Wing - which traces its origins back to World War II. Formed on 20 December 1944 at RAF Cheltenham England as part of Ninth Air Force under command of General Curtis LeMay Jr., this wing flew B-29 Superfortresses as part of Bomber Command during WWII. After hostilities ended, Ninth AF remained operational untilactivated on 15 May 1946 at Camp Kilmer New Jersey as Headquarters Unit for Test Pilot Training Command - later redesignated 10Th Test Pilot Squadron then known as 3rd Test Pilot Wing/914th Bombardment Group]. From 1949 through 1958 this unit operated Lockheed P2V Vikings conducting ground tests for new jet fighters designed by JG53 program director Ernst Udet at his secret facility northwest of Munich Germany known as Hahnenkirche Westheim'. On 16 October 1958 ThirdTPW/914BG changed its name to 914th Bombardment Wing/United States Army Air Forces while flying F-100D Super Sabre units equipped with North American OX-25 Constellation interceptor aircraft from Schwerin AFB Germany]. The wing also served briefly with Douglas A7M Skyhawks during early 1960s squadron operations over Vietnam however these flights were cancelled due to low fuel levels achieved while strafing target areas deep inside South Viet Nam! Chesterfield is a small town located in Chester County, Missouri, United States. The population was 692 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in what would become Chesterfield were Quakers who arrived in 1798. They developed a small farm and church which still stands today on Main Street. A post office called "Chesterfield" was established in 1802, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1902. The name Chesterfield derives from two local farmers, John Chesterfield and his son-in-law Daniel Webster, Jr., who settled there around 1800. The Webster family later donated land to the town for a courthouse and other public buildings. In 1820 the town had a population of about 20 people; by 1830 it had grown to about 100 people. In 1836 the county seat moved from Carthage to Chesterfield after one year of consideration because of growing public interest in that location as well as advances made by agriculturalist James Kappeler at nearby Carbondale (now Springfield). Chesterfield is a small town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,505 at the 2000 census. It was formed in 1837 from the merger of two other towns, Chesterfield and Bellefontaine. The current municipality was formed in 1837 when the merger of two other towns - Chesterfield and Bellefontaine. As of the 2010 census, its population is 1,505 people. The first settler to arrive in what would become Chesterfield was Levi Dickinson who platted a land grant on December 10th, 1836 for himself and his family. The town was founded by James Payson on April 17th, 1840 as part of a greater move westward that started with the Louisiana Purchase. At its peak in 1850 it had a population of 2,000 people according to US Census data however by 1860 it had dwindled to just 200 residents due to numerous social unrests accompanying Kansas admission into the Union as an independent state. The railroad arrived right around this time which led to many new jobs for men and also helped contribute to rural economic growth during this period; however most of these jobs were eventually lost when railroads came along later on and replaced them with highway systems. However some families still continued farming until after World War II when air-mail service made eastern shipping much more efficient; thus ending meaningful farm production in the area permanently while leaving many farmers struggling economically into into the 21st century. In recent years there has been some redevelopment taking place with new housing developments being built near Interstate 35A which has helped spur economic growth within town but overall – although not without challenges – life remains very much centered around farming despite fast changes happening all around them!
Chesterfield was founded in 1823 by John Chester and his wife, Harriet. The original town site is now part of the University City neighborhood of St. Louis. In 1834, Chesterfield purchased land at the foot of Battlefield Hill to build a new town. The first permanent settler in Chesterfield was Levi Morton, who arrived in 1835. By 1840, the population of Chesterfield had reached 100 people. In 1845, the town began annexing adjacent townships and villages until it had a total population of 1,500 people. In 1850, the United States Signal Corps built a tower on Battlefield Hill for use as an artillery observation post. The tower continued to be used until 1886 when it was destroyed by fire. In 1861, Confederate General Robert Ewell attacked Union forces near Chesterfieldtown and Battle Creek before withdrawing back into Virginia; this event is also known as the Battle of Blackburn's Mill or Battle Creek Bridge Campaign. The first store in town was built on what is now First Street in 1835 by Levi Morton (). By 1840, most residents were farmers who raised corn, hay and cattle. A sawmill and gristmill were built around 1850-1860; these businesses closed during the Civil War because of tariffs enacted by President Abraham Lincoln to protect American industry from foreign competition.
