The BridgetonArmy Garrison was founded in 1892 as the Missouri National Guard. In 1907, it became the Army Reserve and served in World War I as a part of the American Expeditionary Force. The Garrison was disbanded after the war and re-established in 1922. It served as an armory until 1945 when it was closed due to budget cuts by then-President Harry S Truman. In 1946, the Garrison reopened as the Army Reserve Historical Society and continues to serve today with its collection of military artifacts from throughout Missouri history. The Society also holds genealogical research events for historical genealogy families interested in exploring their military ancestry. The Garrison is also home to the Military Museum which showcases various Army weaponry, uniforms, vehicles, and other military memorabilia from throughout Missouri’s history.

Bridgeton, Missouri is a small town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. Bridgeton started as a post office on December 12, 1848, and was named for Brigitte de la Motte-Bourgeois, an American woman who died in 1851 while serving as governor of Louisiana. The first postmaster was Mrs. Whitehill. The community developed around the old Joplin railroad bridge over the Ottawa River that crossed the river just north of town. The bridge was destroyed by a flood in 1901 and replaced by a new one; however, it continued to be used as a crossing until about 1951 when it closed due to vandalism by vandals. The old schoolhouse still stands and is used as a museum today. It was built in 1903 and is now part of the Bridgeton Historical Society Museum which also includes an exhibit about local pioneer life including artifacts from the original settlement and early days of Bridgeton

Bridgeton, Missouri was founded in 1836 by the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The town was named after Brigitte de Villefort, a Frenchwoman who had moved to the area in 1825. The first settlers arrived in 1837 and built their homes around a small community center called "The Fort." By 1840, the town had grown to include a courthouse, jail, schoolhouse, and other buildings. In 1851, Brigitte's husband Simon François de Villefort purchased land east of the fort for $5 per acre. This land became known as "The Row" because it served as the dividing line between Bridgeton and neighboring farms. Simon Francois de Villefort died in 1861 and his wife took over management of The Row. She continued to make improvements to the properties until her death in 1901. After her death, The Row reverted back to its original name - Brigitte de Villefort Road - and remained that way until 1975 when it was renamed Boulevard du Lac des Sioux (Bridgeton Boulevard). Bridgeton experienced many changes during its history. Its population increased from 100 residents in 1836 to 2200 by 1860; however, this growth stopped thereafter due to numerous natural disasters such as freezes and floods that struck the area during these years. Finally, due to post-World War II demographic trends, Bridgeton reached its current population of circa 3000 residents in 1968. While most of Bridgeton's recent history has been overshadowed by events surrounding nearby Stroudsburg (population 9100), some key moments from its past include: -In 1954, Brigitte's grandson Guydeau de Villefort donated land along Highway 61 north of town for a bypass project which eliminated one-half mile of traffic congestion on Route 66 near Stroudsburg; -In 1967 Dealey Plaza was dedicated at downtown Bridgeton following Mayor Richard Jaffe's suggestion; -In 1978 Avenue A was added south of town along with several other streets including Main Street which became known as "The Boulevard" because it ran through all five parishes within Bridgeton Township; -In 1982 Community Services District No 1 opened up shop within what is now Village Hall while still providing services primarily within Town Hall boundaries; -More recently development has occurred on both sides of Highway 61 including new businesses popping up on Slater Road just east of town limits while also developing areas west of town limits closer to Interstate 44 (paving over old ruts caused by truck traffic). While much progress has been made since then - with various projects such as funding for an open space initiative -much more remainsayette be done before brgyteonia can truly boast being an "open city".
