Military gift history in Belton, Missouri goes back to the Civil War. The town was first settled by farmers who grew corn and other crops on their properties. By the time of the Civil War, Belton had a population of about 100 people. The men in the town enlisted in the Union Army and served until 1864. After the war, many of these men returned to their farms and businesses. However, some decided to stay inBelton and serve in various roles within local government or military organizations. In 1865, Belton became a post station on Missouri River Railroad. This position allowed for relations betweenthe townspeople and soldiers stationed nearby to improve. From here, soldiers could trade goods and services for food, ammunition, tools and other items. Eventually,Belton became home to several military installations including Fort Hays (1867), Fort Gibson (1868) and Camp Chase (1871). These facilities helped promote education within local communities as well as providing troops with living quarters and opportunities for training/experience outside of combatting war-time missions. Additionally, these installations also generated economic development forBelton residents by selling goods produced by local farmers at low prices to soldiers stationed nearby. Belton is a town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. It is named for General James Belcher, who was killed in action at the Battle of Gettysburg. The population was 962 at the 2010 census.
The first settlers in what would become Belton were two families from Kentucky who came to this area in 1836. They built a log cabin on the banks of the Arkansas River and called it White Oak Ferry. In 1840, they moved to what is now the east side of town and started a farm which they named Springerville because of the trees that grew thereabouts. In 1853, they built a log stockade around their farm and called it Fort Worth Forge because of President John Quincy Adams' visit to that area when he was Vice President under Polk. In 1855, they moved again and this time built a house on Main Street near where present-day US Routes 36 and 62 cross Church Creek (now known as North Park Boulevard). The first store in Belton opened door-to-door selling goods by wagon from Springerville to Fort Worth Forge. By 1870, there were six stores in town with an annual trade of $10,000+.
In 1865, General James Mclntyre arrived at Fort Worth Forge Commanding Ulysses S Grant's Army of the Tennessee during its drive against Confederate forces south of Nashville Campaign and burned down Fort Worth Forge before withdrawing his army back north overland through Independence Gap into Tennessee on October 15th 1865. This event is generally considered as oneof history's most dramatic military defeats for Confederate forces.

Belton was founded in 1833 by John Belton and his family. The first post office was established in 1835. In 1870, Belton became an unincorporated community. Belton has two schools: Elmwood Elementary School and Granite Independent School District Central High School. There are also several businesses in the town: One-time employer John's Pizza opened in 1984, and Now Playing Records opened in 2001. Belton is located on State Route 316 north of Interstate 435 and east of I-435 Business Airport. According to the 2010 census, Belton has a total area of , all of it land.
