The coffee beans from this town were roasted before Starbucks started serving their own coffee in Arkansas. In 1929, Belton's first grocery store, The Merchants, began selling coffee beans direct to consumers. Today, Belton Coffee Roasters is one of the largest and most well-known roasters in the Midwest. Belton is a small town in St. Joseph County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,534 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. Belton was laid out in 1837 by John Belton and named for him. A post office was established there in 1838, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. The first settler to arrive here was James Pritchard. He had come from Virginia with his family on the " CSS Decatur" on February 14, 1836. In 1840, John Belton erected a log cabin here which he called "The Cabin." He died here on October 5, 1840 aged 54 years; his wife Anna (née Moffett) having accompanied him as far as Independence (now Shawnee Heights). Their six children were: James Pritchard (1841-1907), Mary Cate (1843-1925), John Wm. (1845-1902), Laura Jane (1849-1922), Edwin Hemanus Sibley Belton II (1851-1920) and Addie Maybelle Hemanus Sibley Belton (1854-1945). In 1846 Isaac Payne built a cabin on what is now Main Street near where US 64 meets I-435/I-435W. This became the nucleus of what is today's town of Belton. Many other pioneer families followed Payne through the years including Abram Jenson who arrived about 1850 and settled down around what are now State Road 564 and Main Street; Elijah Snow who came about 1860 and founded an inn/grange near where State Road 666 intersects I-435W; David Westbrook who came about 1870 settling down around present day US 64/I-435W & Old Dutch Lane; Asahel Niles early 1800's settled along present day US 64 east of town line; Solomon Dowell settled after Indian Removal in 1830 on land between present day US 60 & Old Dutch Lane - this became known as Westville later renamed by its founders as Bellefontaine after their daughter Bellefontaine Dowell ('the belle' or 'beautiful'). After all these pioneers had arrived some 30 or 40 more took up residence over time mostly during times of drought when available water resources were scarce elsewhere nearby but also because they feltCube vicinity had promise for agriculture due to its rich topography especially rolling hills covered with oak trees containing many wells etcetera This fertile landscape once produced crops such as corn, beans, potatoes etc., but has since declined due to loss of moisture interception capacity due to nonavailability of rivers running through the township Belton began to thrive politically following passage in 1906 of the state Constitution granting voting rights to citizens regardless race so that African Americans could participate equally alongside whites in local government It played an important role both politically and economically during World War II being one of five towns within St Joseph County specifically designated for military production purposes It also experienced significant growth following Civil Rights Movement activity with black people coming into town numbers significantly outpacing white residents until integration finally occurred desegregationally starting circa 1960 thus bringing an end either formally or practically to almost 50% black occupancy beginning before then only nominal percentage increase mainly associated with resident displacement caused by recent waves of migration from inner city areas into adjacent rural areas

Belton, Missouri is located in the Ozarks of southern Missouri. The community was founded by a group of settlers in 1836, and it became a center for agriculture and industry. In the early 20th century, Belton became an important stop on the Great Western Railroad. Today, Belton has a small population but significant historical significance. Belton was first settled by individuals from Kentucky and Illinois. When the railroad arrived in 1836, the town was only one hundred people strong. By 1850, however, Belton had become an important stop on the Great Western Railroad. The town's prosperity came about due to its location and its ability to provide goods and services to other communities along the railroad. Belton also played a significant role in history during the late 19th century. In 1892, there were over eighty businesses inBelTON. These businesses included stores, restaurants, mills, lumberyards, cotton gin plants and more. The town's economy thrived until World War I when production ceased due to factors such as Prohibitionism and competition from new industrial centers around America. After World War I ended, many people left Belton for greener pastures throughout south central Missouri.. However, some who remained put their faith into developing new industries which helped keep Belton alive through the Depression years of the 1930s-1940s (see "The Revival of Belton" below). In recent years there has been much redevelopment taking place in downtown Belleville around New Market Street Bridge which offers access to several parks as well as various retail licenses including clothing stores (Jcrew), craft breweries (Blue Moon Brewery), hair salons (Loser Ladies Salon), music venues (Kellogg Theater) among others; all while maintaining much of what makes this historic community special - its intact architecture dating back over 150 years!
