Belton, Missouri is a town located in the Ozarks region of central Missouri. Its population was 5,098 at the 2010 census. The town's history dates back to 1887 when it was founded as a small fishing village on the mouth of the Arkoma River by two brothers, Elisha and Lazarus Belton. The village became a post office in 1886, and then an railroad station in 1902. In 1925, the town incorporated and began to serve as its own municipal government. It changed its name to Belton in 1959 after becoming an act of Congress recognizing frontier heritage in the area aroundBelton River. The Belton Coast Guard Station is one of only three coast guard stations operated by the United States Coast Guard District Southeast (OCGSE) which includes all of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas. The station has been manned since 1912 when it was established at what is now known as Point Lookout State Park on Big Lakeou near present-day Jacksonville Landing on the Arkansas-Missouri border. The first purpose-built coast guard station in present day Belton was built just south of where it stands today at Red Rock Beach on Big Lakeou during World War I. It served as a temporary location for military personnel assigned to coastal defense along with other adjacent posts until 1942 when shore batteries were relocated ashore from Fort Sumter Island following Pearl Harbor attacks that caused damage thereto including loss of life to enemy forces who had positioned themselves therein likewise undetected until too late! At that time shore batteries were moved permanently inland across Little Rock River near modern day Poplar Bluff thus ending any possibility that this particular fort could again be used against civilians or lightly armed invaders!Prior to this events Headquarters for Headquarters Command District Southeast located at Mobile Alabama had jurisdiction over both coasts while Commander American Forces Europe (CAFE) exercised operational command over Ulysses S Grant Custom House Naval Base Naval Station Norfolk Virginia - home port for Battle Fleet Washington off Chesapeake Bay! Belton is a small town inJefferson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 2,788 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. Belton was laid out in 1838 by Elijah Pogue and named for General James Belknap, who had fought with General Jackson in the Mexican War. The first post office was established in 1839, and the first store opened in 1840. The first settlers were George Witherspoon and his family from New York City; they arrived on a steamboat called "The Eldora" on October 10, 1840. Witherspoon's brother-in-law John Stephenson also came to Belton that year. A gristmill was built near Belton around 1845; it became an important production center for cornmeal and flour until it closed around 1930. A sawmill was built about 1850; it also ceased operations around 1930. Belton experienced its hippie era from about 1969 to 1973 when many people from nearby St Peters used the community as a base of operations while they explored new musical opportunities outside of their home country of Switzerland or England. The community did not fully recover until after 2000 when more attention began to be paid to local culture due to growing interest within the community itself regarding musicology and other related subjects

By 1870, Belton had a population of around 350 people. The town developed primarily as a agricultural settlement, with many families farming corn, beans, wheat and other crops. However, in the early 20th century, Belton began to emerge as an important industrial center. In 1915, the city became home to Belton Motors Corporation; this company manufactured automobiles and trucks. The city also became known for its manufacturing sector during the 1930s and 1940s; during these years, Belton produced military vehicles and aircraft parts. During World War II,Belton played an important role in the production of munitions; at its peak this activity accounted for 50% of the city’s total economic output. After the war ended,BelTON experienced rapid growth thanks to its new industries; however, by the late 1990s this trend had reversed and Belton was experiencing some decline in its status as an economic hubs.
