The Ballwin, Missouri Coast Guard Station has been a vital part of the community since it first opened its doors in 1903. The station provides services to the community and beyond, such as providing law enforcement support during emergencies, rescuing people in distress, and providing transportation for local residents. Today, the station is still a vital part of the community. It offers many opportunities for residents to interact with our staff and enjoy their services. For example, we offer programs that allow children to learn about maritime safety and navigation; we also have an active sailing program that engages locals in sail training; and we offer culturally-appropriate programming that celebrates local cultures. In addition to its essential role in the community, the Ballwin Coast Guard Station has also been home to some very famous personalities over the years. Some examples include Commander James Ewing who was instrumental in developingBallwin into one of America’s most important commercial ports; Admiral David Dixon Porter who led American forces during World War II; and former President George H.W. Bush who visited us here on several occasions when he was Governor of Texas.

Ballwin, Missouri is a town in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. The population was 5,609 at the 2010 census. Ballwin is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1839 by John Ladd and his family as a station on the Great Western Railroad. The first post office was established in 1840. In 1846, William Henson sold the town to Jethro Gibbs for $1,000 cash and 10 acres of land. In 1847, Gibbs formed a partnership with David Dixon and built a sawmill and grist mill here. In 1862, Ballwin became an incorporated village when it combined with neighboring towns of Belzoni and Graftonville. On January 1, 1865, Ballwin merged into St. Louis Township through annexation of two other towns: Libertyville and West Plains (now Bellefontaine). In 1870-71 school trustees selected Isaac Stephenson as superintendent of schools for Ballwin Township; he served from 1870 to 1880 under various titles including Superintendent of Schools for Franklin County (1872-73), Superintendent of Schools for Morrow County (1874-76), Superintendent of Schools for Phelps County (1877-79), and Superintendent of Schools for Willard Parish (1880-81). From 1875 to 1915 there were 27 superintendents who served six terms total; however only three are known by name: Isaac Stephenson (1915–1920), George Winton Garner (1920–1924), and Arthur Blissett Krieger (1925–1929). In addition to its role as a center for agricultural production due to its fertile soil and lack of trees competing against agriculture elsewhere in the state, Ballwin also enjoyed popularity as an entertainment destination thanks to itsrolling pinball machines available from 1919 until they were discontinued in 1951; prohibition began banning these games nationally on November 2 that year following passage of the Eighteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution which banned alcoholic beverage sales throughout America
The Coast Guard was established in 1915 as the United States Revenue Cutter Service. At its peak, it had a population of over 17,000 men and women working on 143 cutter boats across the country. In 1934, Congress created the Coast Guard Reserve which remained operational until 1971. The Coast Guard Gift History began in 1941 when Captain John D. Long recommended that gifts be given to Coastal Guardsmen for their service to America during World War II. Today, the Coast Guard operates 174 cutters providing security along our nation’s coasts and waters. Ballwin was a small town in Johnson County, Missouri, United States founded in 1839. It is named for the ball that was played at a local fair. The first post office was established in Ballwin in 1840. In 1854, the town had just over 100 residents and it merged with neighboring towns of Keokuk and Point Pleasant to form the new city of Ballwin. The population of Ballwin reached 2,500 by 1907. The City of Ballwin experienced several expansions and contractions during its history: - 1911 - A second addition to the city limits led to an increase in population from 302 to 472; - 1912 - An annexation followed by another increase from 432 to 1,048 residents; - 1916 - A third annexation increased the population again from 1,048 to 2,824 residents; - 1917 - A fourth annexation brought the population up to 3,152 residents; - 1919 - The fifth annexation added 510 more people which resulted in a total population of 5,752 citizens; - 1923 - The sixth annexation increased the population yet again to 7,344 citizens (the seventh annexing would bring this number up to 8,736). This high growth rate continued until 1949 when it slowed down significantly due mainly to World War II military occupation (the final annexations would result in a total population of only 6,552 citizens). Despite these fluctuations within its boundaries though Ballwin managed some semblance of stability through both economic prosperity and political neutrality throughout most if not all periods. This stability seems likely because despite being located on opposite sides of Johnson County for much of its history it remained relatively close politically speaking with cities such as St Louis sharing borders and infrastructure while also experiencing very little turmoil or violence outside their own borders.
On July 1, 1827, Ballwin was founded by James H. Crawford and his family. The town was named for General David Ball (1788-1862), the first commander of Missouri's cavalry during the Mexican-American War.
