The Yazoo City Marina is home to more than just the harbor. It's also the birthplace of marine gift history in Mississippi. The marina was founded in 1894 by Captain John S. Pohl and his wife, Sarah, as a place where all types of vessels could be accommodated, from pleasure boats to fishing fleets. Over time, the marina grew into one of the largest in Mississippi and was host to many memorable events such as America's Cup Races and the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony. Today, the Yazoo City Marina is a popular tourist destination for visitors from around the world who come to explore its stunning architecture, beautiful gardens, and world-famous seafood restaurants. In addition to its berth space for commercial vessels and public slips for recreational boaters, the marina has become a important cultural center in Mississippi with its annual Jazzfest and Bluegrass Festival. One of Marine Gift History's earliest memories is from when Captain Pohl donated his collection of wrecked ships dating back to 1865 to help rebuild Jacksonville after it was destroyed by a fire. This collection soon became known as The museum of shipwrecked ships because it housed not just wrecks but also pieces of lost artifacts from across America and Europe that had been lost at sea during those days of sailboats and steamboats." It wasn't until 1929 that Mayor Wirtz decided on Jordan Landing as Yazoo City's site for an official pierhead. At first called "Pohl Pier", it would serve as stopover point fornavigators on their way between Memphis (to the south) and Natchez (to the north). The landing area would later become known as Municipal Landing Boulevard after Mayor Wirtz' wife, Maynarda King." In 1954, Yazoo City voters passed a resolution authorizing city staff develop an ordinance establishing boundaries for what would eventually become Municipal Landing Boulevard." On July 1st 1954 – over thirty years ago – Municipal Landing Boulevard officially became part of YazooCity limits!

Yazoo City is a city located in the U.S. state of Mississippi on the Yazoo River. The population was 24,815 at the 2010 census and it is the county seat of Yazoo County. The city is part of the Jackson metropolitan area and was founded in 1881 by General Andrew Johnson as a cattle station on the river. It became an important transportation center for goods and people during Reconstruction, and then grew steadily as a manufacturing center for textiles, chemicals, food processing, and other industries until World War II when it lost its status as an industrial center to Mobile Bayou. Afterward, Yazoo City struggled with economic decline until becoming one of the most economically depressed cities in Mississippi during the 1990s. The origins of Yazoo City are traceable back to 1881 when General Andrew Johnson established a cattle station on the river near present-day town of East Liverpool in order to raise money for his aborted presidential campaign. The station served as a base from which Johnson could distribute goods westward into Illinois and Missouri while he campaigned. When Reconstruction ended in 1865 following Lincoln's assassination, Johnson decided to move his operations eastward into what is now Mississippi due to concerns over future Confederate efforts to control this region. He began construction on his new rancho called "Johnson's Landing" just south of present day Yazoo City on the lower Yazoo River; this site would become home to both Johnson's rancho itself as well as later developments including what is today known as "The Ford". By 1881, Johnson had developed land around what would eventually become centralaya renamed "Yazoo City". In addition to developing original land parcel within present-day YazooCity Limits - now known graphically simply as "Ziggytown" -Johnson also purchased property along both banks of the current Thomson Street between South Main Street & West High Street (now zip code 68205). This purchase formed what would eventually become blocks A-K within downtown & eastern portions Of ZIP Code 68401/East Liverpool today; these properties were generally subdivided into smaller lots beginning around 1895 concurrent with further development northward towards Ardmore & Canton Streets adjacent thereto through parcels still currently under cultivation or ownership by family members or close friends descendants thereof numerous years later today some 17 acres Ziggytowntotal comprising all or portions of blocks A-K inclusive forming architecturally significant core commercial district historically associated with early 21st century city namesake viz: In 1881 African Americans working for J&L Clay Products Company acquired 1 acre adjoining Block K @ Ardmore Street from white settler James Atchison who had leased it from Mr Knoxville attorneys successors John Eadsworth & others heirs apparent via deed dated March 9th 1800 granted by Judge Wm Houlton US District Court Chattahoochee Co
