The Yazoo City Air Force Base is home to the Mississippi Air National Guard's 308th Fighter Wing. The wing was activated on October 1, 1951 at RAF Leeming in Yorkshire, England and was redesignated as the 308th Fighter Wing on February 14, 1955. The 309th Fighter Squadron (F-86 Sabre) activated at RAF Fakenham in Norfolk, England on May 15, 1957. Inactivated on September 3, 1959 when its aircraft were transferred to the United States Air Force cadet program. The 309th FS moved to NAS Alameda California in early 1960 and became an instructor squadron operated under IFRB flying rules until it converted to jet fighters in June 1963 which ended its aircrew training days with the Wright brothers gliders. On July 1 1969 while stationed at RAF Warton they transitioned from piston-powered fighter jets to swept Wheatley turbofans and became the first active duty unit of a Lockheed Corporation Lockheed P-3C Orion airplane squadron en route from NAS Long Beach California to perform deployments around Southeast Asia duringthe Vietnam War Flying over North Vietnam they provided intelligence support for ground forces fighting against South Vietnamese communist insurgents during that conflict. On April 20 1974 5 ESU "Pogo" C-119 Stratotankers departed NAS Corpus Christi Texas enroute from Hanoi after participating in Operation Rolling Thunder having arrived over North Korea just prior to their departure for their mission which was code named Operation Arrowhead and their target was Mucomo AB near Kimpo City north of Seoul In response to the Yom Kippur War hostilities had stopped however warresources stocks were low so instead of providing airlift support directly combat troops were transported by helicopter into South Korea via Daegu Airport then by rail down through North Chungcheong Province before arriving at Intonation Airport near Pyongyang most of these vehicles unloaded At Lae Army Camp south of Seoul where they remained unloading supplies and personnel continued onward arriving at Pyongyang airport March 7 1976 As part of Joint Chiefs Directive 6055 "Quiet Skies Over Korea" USAF Tactical Fighter Command initiated a policy change making all USAF planes fly without lights off nightime in order To provide more accurate bombing strike patterns Night operations began with one week notice each time an aircraft would be available 67 USAAF pilots flew this policy change becoming known as the "Black One" operation Withdrawal of USAF Combat Aircraft Units From Korea effective Aug 31 1977 due primarilyto budget cuts but also because KC-135 transports could no longer cover all necessary cargo needs resulting in increased fire risk when refueling A total of 366 USAF aircraft remained deployed worldwide including 151 jet trainers 176 propeller airplanes 144 nonjets

Yazoo City is a city in Jackson County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 5,040 as of the 2010 census. Yazoo City is also the county seat of Jackson County. The history of Yazoo City dates back to 1871 when it was founded by white men who migrated from Tennessee and other parts of the South in an attempt to find a new home for themselves after the American Civil War. In 1881, Yazoo City became part of Jackson County and had a population of just hundred people. However, by 1900, Yazoo City had developed into an important commercial and industrial center due to its location on the banks of the Pearl River. By 1925, however, there were only a few small businesses remaining in downtown Yazoo City and most residents mostly worked in rural areas adjacent to the city limits. In 1939, during World War II, many members of the Iraqi military served in Jackson County and many homes were confiscated by authorities as they were used as military barracks or troop training centers. As a result of this occupation many buildings within downtown Yazoo City were destroyed including several factories which employed thousands of Mississippians during World War II. Today there are only some patches remaining where these factories once stood; however, overall these sites are largely unattractive because they have been extensively vandalized over time. On July 10th 1976 local resident Leroy Hardwick set off what would become known as "the largest fireworks display in U.S." When he lit his aerial firework show from a height above his houseboat anchored on Swan Lake approximately southwest of town - about 12 miles wide - he inadvertently ignited 1 million fireworks containers that filled both directions from his boat dock onto Swan Lake with an estimated 100-meter (328-foot) burst detonation radius! Unfortunately for Hardwick his display went largely unnoticed until09:00pm EDT when observers aboard two large airborne radar systems located him visually at 9°N 122°W (approximately 12 miles northwest) while viewing an immense fireballproducing explosion over Iowa Lakes near Marshalltown’s airport! Although no one was injured during this spectacular display...the subsequent investigation revealed that more than half a million rounds acrylic fireworks containerscontainingless than 0.1 gram each exploded within +/- 3 minutes following ignition...this represented one out five routinely scheduled Jefferson National Air Traffic Services Flight 711 displays resulting from lost control airspace conditions encountered over central Mississippi on July 10th 1976! The exploding container fires caused extensive property damage totaling $2 million dollars plus costs associated with clean up operations which continued for almost three months! Fortunately no lives were lost or any injuries occurred although there were significant environmental consequences resultant from this highly destructive event; numerous aircraft wreckage cleanup operations are still required every year now days throughout central Mississippi due to remnants left behind by pyrotechnic enthusiasts prior to their departure!!!
Air force gift history began in the early days of the USAF when General Order No. 121, issued on October 1st, 1947, mandated that all USAF units receive air-to-air missiles as part of their armament inventory. This order followed a directive from President Harry S Truman to adopt a "policy of self defense" and preclude any country from being able to threaten the United States with nuclear weapons. The Air Force's procurement program for air-to-air missiles was initiated by then Air Technical Intelligence Officer (ATIO) Roger Heitman who developed the AIM-9 Sidewinder missile. The first production model was produced in late 1948 and it represented an important milestone in USAF missile development. The Sidewinder was successfully employed as part of Operation Hardcover during the 1949 Korean War and subsequently became an integral component of USAF fighter aircraft doctrine. It has also been used as part of many other conflict operations such as Operation Neptune's Spear in Afghanistan and Operation Enduring Freedom in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Yazoo City is a small town in Mississippi that has been around since the early 1800s. The town was originally called Yazoo, which means "deep water." The name eventually became Yazoo City after a company of settlers found the area in 1819 and registered their land with the United States government. In 1836, the first post office was established in Yazoo City. The population of Yazoo City grew rapidly during the 1830s and 1840s due to the cotton gin boom in Mississippi. By 1850, Yazoo City had a population of over 10,000 people. During this time, Yazoo City experienced some significant changes including becoming an important stop on the Underground Railroad. The cotton gin boom died out during the 1850s and 1860s which led to decreased demand for cotton and reduced trade between Mississippi and Alabama. This caused large numbers of African Americans to leave their homes in search of opportunity. Many of these black refugees landed in Tennessee, Kentucky, or Virginia where they were free until they could be sold back into slavery at auction by local slaveowners. In 1865, Confederate forces invaded Mississippi and burned down most of Mobile Bay before retreating back into Alabama. This event known as Battle Of Mobile resulted in more than 50 dead Confederate soldiers and many more civilians killed or wounded.
