West Point, Mississippi is a small town located in west central Mississippida. The population was 3,471 at the 2010 census and it is the county seat of Marshall County. The ruins of West Point are located on the east side of the town, about one mile from the main square. The first residents of West Point were white settlers who began to arrive in 1827. By 1840, there were only a few hundred people living in what is now West Point. Most of these people worked on farms or raised livestock. In 1851, a post office was established in West Point and shortly thereafter, a school was built.
