The United States Air Force has been providing service to the people of Southaven, Mississippi since World War II. The USAF's primary mission is the defense of America and its allies abroad, through airpower. In 1947, the USAAFactivated a bomber unit in Southaven, Mississippi which was designated as the 5th Bombardment Wing (5 BW). This wing was equipped with Boeing B-29 Superfortresses and flew strategic missions against Japan. It was during this time that Southaven residents first began to become familiar with their local Air Force presence. From 1951 until 1973, Southern Regional Airport served as the hub for operations for all five wings of the USAF in Southaven. In 1973, Withdrawal from Army Aviation led to the disbanding of both wings and all flying ceased at Southern Regional Airport. However, because it still served as an airport serving commercial traffic, Southern Regional Airport continued to be used by the USAF until 1991 when it became part of general aviation ownership andRONA took over management duties. In 1992, General Motors abandoned plans to build a new plant in Springfield Township in Jackson County and placed a moratorium on new airframe production at Dow Corningville Factory #2 due to recessionary conditions within Michigan; however GM did continue research into new aircraft technologies that were being developed at Dow Corningville Factory #2 including advanced structure fabrication techniques pioneered there by McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Company. After years of study and design work between GM engineers and those at Dow CorningvilleFactory #2 under contract with McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Company culminating in two successive model designs known as "Dow CorningvilleFighter" these advanced structures were finally completed by McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Company during 1984 -1985 under a sole development program managed by former Lockheed Martin Manager Neil Armstrong who had earlier been responsible for designing both engines for Convair CV-8 Crusader aircraft which would later serve as models for KC-135 Stratotanker aerial refueling jets employed by USAF Special Operations Forces) . As Wright-Patterson AFB closed its Dayton OH facility on October 15th 1990 most nonstop Airmen flew out of Memphis TN MEMPHIS AIRPORT everyday except Fridays where they fly into [Southaven Municipal] which closed but reopened after bankruptcy proceedings ensued As Wright-Patterson AFB closure left many Airmens jobless & without family support many decided not return back home especially when economy improved so suddenly

Southaven, Mississippi is a census-designated place in Lamar County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 5,027 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson metropolitan area. Southaven was founded by planters in 1847 as a small town on the banks of the Pearl River. The town grew rapidly due to its location and proximity to cotton plantations. In 1865, Southaven became an incorporated city and experienced rapid growth until World War II when it lost much of its population due to戦後の生産により、解体した。 The area now known as Southaven was re-established as a city in 1968 after being combined with nearby Springdale and Beechview from Jackson Township.
