The Ridgeland, Mississippi Army National Guard has been deploying to support the United States military since World War II. The unit's history can be traced back to 1917 when members of the 1st Infantry regiment were called up for service in World War I. In 1932, the 1st Infantry was redesignated as the 11th Infantry and organized into a battalion under the command of Colonel James W. “Gus” Griggs. By 1945, the 11th Infantry had become one of four battalions that made up the 2nd Cavalry Brigade under General George Custer’s command. In 1951, when active duty troops were sent to Korea, two battalions of the 11th Infantry became part of 4th Armored Division and served with distinction until their withdrawal in July 1953. After their return home, soldiers from both battalions amalgamated together to form 3rd Battalion Ridgeland Artillery Regiment on November 15, 1954. On January 1, 1957 An activation order was placed for 3rd Battalion Ridgeland Artillery Regiment which became operational on February 17 with its first mission being fire support for units conducting amphibious operations off Louisiana coast during Operation Neptune’s Spear . 3rd Battalion Ridgeland Artillery Regiment deployed again in support of Operation Desert Storm on October 20-21 , 1991 . The battalion helped lead an assault force that stormed Kuwaiti airfields and destroyed Iranian airfields playing a critical role in achieving victory over Iraq . On December 12 , 2002 three companies arrived at Fort Polk Louisiana to join 9/11 response forces after Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans *. These companies are currently stationed at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson*. As part of efforts to improve relationships between Ft Polk Pelicans and other US Military Units*, 4/1 Field artillery detachment has also been assigned here*This detachment is responsible for providing indirect fire capabilities within range of Ft Polk Air Force Base*. Additionally this detachment provides cover and security while live ammunition is unloaded from airplanes at McGuire AFB* In 2003 Fourth Brigade activated its Detachment 2 (4/1) Field artillery company from Ft Worth Texas (*). This company will now provide indirect fire capabilities within range of MAGTF Fayetteville *.*The brigade plans also call for reactivation or expansion (of detachments) 2/2 Armor cavalry squadron; signals intelligence squadron; engineer platoon; aviation refueling platoon - these detachments will come online in 2004

After World War II, QOCH was re-raised as a combined arms regiment under command of Headquarters UK Forces Europe until its disbandment in 2001. 2nd Battalion The Gordon Highlanders (GBH) was raised in 1865 from men who had deserted from the Royal Scots Fusiliers. It became part of Kitchener's New Zealand Infantry Force when it was created by Orderin Grant on 1 April 1915 following his victory at Isandlwana Creek. In 1916–17, GBH fought at Gallipoli before being involved in operations around Salonika during 1918–19; these included supporting Operation Crusader which aimed to lead Allied forces into Serbia so that they could overthrow Serbian hegemony there. GBH also took part in counter-invasion operations against Normandy after D-Day across France and Belgium; this led to two major battles – Battle of Etaples on 20 July 1944 where 397 soldiers were killed and 527 wounded; followed by Battle of Beaumont Hamel on 8 August 1944 where 10 tanks were destroyed by grenades before finally withdrawing back over the Moselle River following heavy casualties – both successes helped Britain achieve strategic objectives within Continental Europe which ultimately ended World War II [1] . 3rd Battalion Durham Light Infantry (DLI) was raised originally as a cyclist battalion but converted to infantry duty upon its conversion into a regular force on 15 May 1888 under Lieutenant Colonel John Cuninghame MC with headquarters at Durham Barracks, now known as Prince William Hall near London Bridge Gate . DLI served throughout World War 1 with distinction including taking part in all three campaigns alongthe Western Front – Arras/Passchendaele/Courcelles – achieving nine battle honours including four Victoria Crosses . Afterwwar DLI returned home for demobilization early 1946 having suffered badly during hostilities . DLI re-raised again for service during Korea conflict with same results .[2] It should be noted that although some regiments have been disbanded several times - most notably 2nd(Ltd.)GLD - this does not mean that their Deployed Gift History has not been remembered fondly by their former members or supporters!
Ridgeland is a city in Hancock County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 22,545 at the 2010 census. Ridgeland is the county seat of Hancock County. It was founded by German immigrants in 1836 and named for George Washington Ridgeway. The town became a center for cotton farming after it was surveyed in 1837 by J.D. Stephenson and others as part of the Jackson Purchase. In 1875, Ridgeland became the first town in Hancock County to be incorporated as a municipality. The current name of Ridgeland comes from General Andrew Johnson's term as governor of Mississippi (1887-1893), during which time he visited the area and recommended its name to President James K. Polk: "I think that it would be an honor to give this charming community a new name—Ridgeland." The city has experienced significant growth over the years, with annexations from other municipalities including Harrisonburg (1927), Starkville (1935), Meridian Heights (1941), Port Gibson (1964) and Newton Grove (1981). In 2003, Ridgeland annexed 15% of Smithfield Township in Hinds County following a land acquisition dispute between both sides. This annexation created what is now known as Ridgewood Park Historic District within Ridgewood City Limits. In 2007, an agreement was reached to annex 10% of Greenbrier Township also within Ridgewood City Limits due to disagreements between neighboring municipalities about development rights along Highway 97 near Greenbrier River crossings). These annexations brought the total number of municipalities in Hancock County up to 23! As more communities are annexed into or added to Ridgewield City limits, there will likely continue to be increased economic development opportunities available within its boundaries – making it one of America's fastest-growing cities. Ridgeland is located at 36°25′N 94°29′W / 36°25'N 94°30'W / -94·5'N -96·2'W . According to the 2010 Census data, its population was 22,545 residents; however this figure may have changed since then because no recent census taken has been released
The Ridgeland area was first settled by the Menard and Price families in 1797. They founded a small community on the banks of the Mississippi River, which they named "Ridgeland." The town grew rapidly, and by 1821 it had become an important commercial center. In 1831, Ridgeland was renamed Meridian after President James K. Polk. During the Civil War, Ridgeland chose to remain neutral and supported the Union side. In 1865, Ridgeland became a slaveholding state when it seceded from Mississippi and joined the Confederate States of America. The town lost its importance following the war, but it continued to be known for its agricultural production until the 1970s.
