The first police department in the town was founded in 1875 and it was called the Pascagoula Police Department. The department changed its name to the Pascagoula Sheriff’s Department in 1907. In 1942, the Pascagoula Police Department merged with the Mississippi State Highway Patrol to form the present-day Pascagoula Police Department. The present-day PPD is made up of sworn officers from both departments as well as civilian employees who provide support.
