In 1890s-1920s, many black farmers started moving into what would becomeOxford because they found755 acres (291 hectares)of land for sale for $3 per acre (1/4 pound). This allowed them to start their own businesses as well as receive government assistance such as seed money and loans which helped them purchase additional land which they then used to build homes orchards or plantations; these farms still produce food today albeit without much Hope or credit available today due to race relations during this time period During World War II most students living near Oxford took up arms because they felt that Japan would attack America if America didn't fight back The result was over 20% unemployment for local residents after Pearl Harbor After World War II ended however most residents returned home including those who had taken up arms Many businesses closed due to lack of customers but some kept running thanks mostly to Mrs Rome's grocery store which became known as "The Lady's" .
