The battle was fought between Confederate forces and Union forces and resulted in the death of more than sixty Confederate soldiers and three hundred Union soldiers.
Olive Branch is a small town in the southwestern corner of Mississippi. It is located about twenty miles west of Jackson, the state capital and largest city. The population was 7,873 at the 2010 census, making Olive Branch the most populous township in Hinds County. The first settler in what is now Olive Branch was James Witherspoon, who arrived in 1824 from Kentucky. He built a cabin on the banks of Buffalo Bayou, which he named for his kinsman Lord Baltimore. In 1830, Witherspoon married Lydia Cawthon and founded a community called Asbury after his family's plantation near Savannah, Georgia. They had six children: James (1831-1905), John (1833-1897), Lydia (1835-1915), Sarah Jane (1839-1926), Martha Ann (1841-1900) and Anna Maria (1843-1920). Lydia Cawthon died when her son James was five years old and John took over running their farmstead; he also served as their pastor from 1855 to 1861. In 1840, when Abraham Lincoln became president of the United States, he appointed Witherspoon as an officer in the Union army; he then moved to Olive Branch to live with his daughter Sarah Jane and her husband Tappan Ziegler until 1868 when he moved back to Kentucky with his second wife Lillie Greenidge Keyser. In 1865, Abraham Lincoln issued an executive order that established Olive Branch as a telegraph center between Meridian and Nashville; it was here that Jeptha Swayne developed important telephone patents for Southern Bell Telephone Company. After Confederate General Robert Ewell's raid on Corinth on February 9–10 1863 resulted in more than 100 casualties among Union forces including Wadsworth Littlefield – one of Olive Branch's few native sons – many men decided not to return home after being forced off their plantations during Reconstruction following Confederate defeat at Vicksburg/Chattanooga/Murfreesboro/Tullahoma Railroad Robbery Scandal - some decided to stay on their farms while others emigrated to northern states such as Minnesota or Pennsylvania where opportunities were available for work after free labor laws were passed by Congress Following Indian Removal Act of 1830 all white males over age 10 living on lands east of Red River must leave within five years - this led many black Mississippians who owned land east of Red River to resist removal because they feared losing their property To read more please go here

Olive Branch is a town in Yazoo County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson metropolitan area. The history of Olive Branch goes back to 1821 when two men named John and James Olive discovered land on this site. The community was laid out in 1827 by General William Folsom and his brother-in-law, Daniel Webster. In 1830, a post office was established at Olive Branch with the name "Hernando." By 1840, the Post Office had been renamed "Olive Branch," after General Andrew Johnson's victory over Zachary Taylor in that year's presidential election. In 1851, Colonel Jno. A. Hinkle organized a militia company in order to protect settlers from marauding Indians led by Chief Osage War Eagle. When hostilities ceased in 1853, Hinkle returned to his farmstead and built a store there which he called "Hinkle's Store." In 1861, Union troops burned down Hinkle's Store; however, local citizens rebuilt it shortly thereafter and it continued to serve as an important center for trade until 1969 when it closed its doors for good due to economic decline within the townspeople themselves. Oliver Waddell Cherry became connected with Olive Branch through his shareholding in the first white grocery store opened in Mississippi by African Americans: Waddell & Cherry grocery store (now known as City Market). In 1954-1955 he donated land adjacent to City Market for use as a public school – now known as Olive branch High School – providing instruction for both black students and whites alike until 1982 when integrated schooling began there also enrolling black students only under Title I segregation laws enacted that year by then Governor Ross Barnett seeking national political cover during racially charged controversy over education apartheid policies nationwide following passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 unprecedented Ulysses S Grant presidency vowing total racial integration throughout all federally funded institutions including state schools). Thereafter through much hard work culminating with many successful campaigns against numerous such legislatively mandated busing programs implemented statewide Superintendent Coleman Young announced plans unilaterally upon taking office Jan 1st 1970 -schools were integrated without any prior notice or consent from either parents or children!! On July 9, 1814, a group of Mississippians set out from Vicksburg in an attempt to join the Confederacy. The journey was fraught with danger and many died during the crossing. When they finally arrived in Memphis, Tennessee, they were met by Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest. Forrest wanted the Mississippians to swear an oath of allegiance to the Confederacy and send their children into slavery. Many Mississippians chose not to swear an oath and instead fled back home. Some 620 Mississippians also left for Arkansas in order to take up arms against Union forces. Aftermath of Battle of Olive Branch: The battle at Olive Branch was one of the most important engagements on Mississippi soil during the American Civil War. The Confederate victory gave them control over much of southern Mississippi and helped solidify their rule over that region for years afterwards. It is also significant because it marked a turning point in the war for which Mississippi was directly responsible- after this battle, Union troops began evacuating all African Americans from Jackson County rather than allowing them free passage through that county while under military occupation; this policy continued until 1865 when Reconstruction began
