The Olive Branch Marine Museum (OBM) is a nonprofit organization that preserves and restores maritime history in Olive Branch, Mississippi. The OBM was founded in 1984 by the late Mrs. Mildred Goudreau. At its inception, the OBM consisted of a small museum room on the first floor of the local library and two donated boats, the USS Allendale and the USS Cleveland. In 1988, Mrs. Goudreau donated another boat -the SSVL Peggy Grace- to help swell OBM’s collection significantly. Today, OBM has four donation boats plus several historical artifacts from various vessels afloat in our local waterways. TheOBM’s mission is to promote maritime culture through education and research about coastal fishing communities throughout Mississippi from prehistory to present day; exhibit artifacts from these communities; offer exhibits for public viewing; provide educational resources for school children and their parents/guardians; conduct heritage tours for visitors; and make donations to numerous community organizations across Mississippi including Gulf Coast Fishermen’s Association, Coastal Conservation League of Mississippi, West Alabama Boat Club Inc., Muskogee Lakeshore Foundation Inc., Delta Chapter of American Fisheries Society and more.
Olive Branch is a city in Jackson County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 9,262 at the 2010 census. Olive Branch is located on the Gulf of Mexico and is part of the Memphis metropolitan area. The city was founded in 1836 by General Andrew Jackson as a result of his efforts to gain control of the Mobile River basin following the Battle of New Orleans. The community had its start as a trading post on the Mobile River and became an important center for lumbering and shipping around 1855. In 1881, Olive Branch became one of five cities chosen to become part of the new Mississippi Territory after it was created from parts of Alabama, Louisiana, and Tennessee. It continued to be an important center until cotton production peaked in the early 20th century and saw declines in both manufacturing and commerce throughout most of what is now Mississippi. However, Olive Branch has experienced resurgence over recent decades due to its proximity to Memphis – home to many large businesses – as well as its sharecropping history which has helped make it one of the poorest cities in Mississippi by median income levels. The city's first mayor was Amedee Collins (1889-1892). After he resigned because he could not get elected to office again due to being blacklisted by white Democrats, Mayor James Waddy (1902-1903) appointed John Mebane as his replacement

Olive Branch, Mississippi is a small town in Marshall County, Mississippi. It was founded in 1822 by General James K. Polk and his wife Lucy C. Polk as a post office on the Natchez Trace Road between Iuka and Corinth. The name means "oasis" in the Choctaw language. The town grew rapidly after it was selected for its location on the Natchez Trace River and its good transportation connections to other settlements in the area. In 1845, Olive Branch became the seat of Marshall County when it was organized from portions of Claiborne and Jackson Counties. In 1865, during the American Civil War, Confederate forces attacked Olive Branch while Union troops were defending the town from an attack by Confederate cavalry troopers commanded by Major General Prentiss Halleck. The battle resulted in over fifty-five dead or wounded soldiers and numerous destroyed buildings and vehicles. After war ended, Olive Branch declined slowly until the late 20th century when large-scale development began nearby with new shopping malls, restaurants, schools, and housing developments. However, much of this progress has been undone due to natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina which destroyed many homes and businesses throughout southern Mississippi in 2005-2006. Today there are few permanent residents living in Olive Branch although it remains a strong community culture Ventura Museum offers art classes to children as well as puppet shows for adults every Saturday night at 6pm outside
On October 3, 1871, a group of men and women arrived in Olive Branch, Mississippi from Arkansas. They were the first white people to live in the community. The town was founded by Andrew White and his family. Andrew's grandson, John White, started an agricultural business in the area. In 1898, a post office was established in Olive Branch and remained open until it was discontinued in 1907.
