The National Guard of Mississippi was first organized on December 17, 1861, in Jackson, Mississippi. The guard was initially composed of soldiers from the Confederate States of America who had fought in the American Civil War. The first national guard regiment to be raised in Moss Point was the 1st Regiment Mississippi Volunteer Infantry. The unit served for three years and then disbanded on May 6, 1865. In 1964, a group of civic-minded citizens in Moss Point collected donations from businesses and individuals to form the nucleus of what would become the national guard gift history program in Mississippi. Over time, local units have been raised and disbanded within the state militia system, but each successive detachment has maintained some connection with its predecessor unit in Jackson. Today, there are over 120 military members serving with distinction as part of the national guard gift history program headquartered at Camp White Sulphur Springs near Mobile, Alabama. This patriotic force is used for public safety purposes throughout the United States including deployments tobonus missions during both world wars; peacekeeping operations; disaster relief;and counterterrorist activities. Moss Point is a town in Jackson County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 5,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson, Mississippi Metropolitan Statistical Area. Moss Point is located on the Gulf of Mexico just east of the levee that separates bayous Leflore and Tallahatchie counties. The name "Moss Point" comes from a local family name which means "the place where the moss grows." The first Europeans to visit Moss Point were Frenchmen who built a trading post there in 1699. The area was then called Saint-Jacques de la Fère and was named for Jacques Marquette, an explorer who had explored parts of North America during the 17th century. In 1819, Andrew Jackson became president of the United States and ordered all English possessions in America be destroyed except for Fort Gibson on West Florida Island in Mobile Bay. After becoming president, he decided to keep Saint-Jacques de la Fère as his official residence and renamed it Moss Point after his friend Colonel John A. Moss (1785–1847), commander of Fort Gibson's garrison from 1806 until its destruction by Ulysses S. Grant during the American Civil War (1865). In 1830s through 1840s, MossPoint saw rapid growth due to its location at an important natural harbor along Louisiana's Gulf coastline and its role as a center for cotton production; however by 1850 it had shrunk back to its original size due to increased competition from inland towns such as Meridian and Tupelo with better transportation facilities nearby. By 1870 much of what remained of MossPoint had been swallowed up by newer development around Interstate 90 which ran through town though some older buildings still stand today including: Episcopal Church (built 1865), Post Office (opened 1872), Masonic Lodge No 6 (built 1886), Presbyterian Church (opened 1893) and Baptist Church remodeled in 2002 into home theatres used primarily for live music events such as blues shows or rock concerts etc.. However one remaining building that has undergone significant renovation over time is Court House which now houses offices associated with bothlocal government including fire protection services as wellas being used occasionally as a performance space by local bands/artists before they move on to larger venues The current incarnation of Moss Point began taking shape when two families merged their businesses - Gulf Coast Cotton Exchange & Mills Inc., founded 1935 by Mrs Jules Pogue Costello and her husband Gus Costello, with operations continuing until 1984; then John Kapp Company Incorporated 1968-1983owned by Jerry Kapp Sr.; finally Josephine Sewell Coopersmith & Sons LP 1982-2010owned by Judith Sewell Gadsden

Moss Point was a plantation in Mississippi, founded by the Moss family in 1827. The plantation was operated by Englishmen and their slaves until the early 1840s when it passed to Americans. It was one of the most important cotton plantations in Mississippi during the antebellum period. In 1849, Moss Point was sold to Andrew Johnson and became part of his presidential family's White House Plantation. The property remained in the Johnson family until it was auctioned off in 1957.
