Moss Point, Mississippi is a small town located in Jackson County, Mississippi. The population was 3,973 at the 2010 census. Moss Point is on the banks of theMississippi River and forms part of the larger city of Jackson. The history of Moss Point dates back to 1821 when Captain John Sperling and his family settled in what is now Moss Point. At that time, it was an agricultural community with large gardens and several hundred acres of cornfields. The Sperlings were among the first white families to settle inJackson County. In 1828, they built their home on present-day State Street in Moss Point. They continued to reside there until their death in 1861. Their son John Prentice served as Mayor of Jackson from 1865-1867 and did much to promote the growth ofJackson County and Moss Point. In 1898, entrepreneur Aeneas Mitchell founded Gulfport Manufacturing Company which became one of America's leading producers of cottonseed oil products. Mitchell also developed a new way to culture cotton by using submerged roots rather than traditional planting techniques. This process resulted in increased yields and lower costs for growers throughout Gulfport County. Today, Gulfport Manufacturing Company remains a prominent local employer with over 1,000 employees statewide! By 1930, many businesses had been established within downtown Moss Point including two grocery stores (Benton's Market & Grocery Company and Joplin's Drug Store), two department stores (Madison Avenue Merchants Association & Woolworths), three hotels (the New Orleans Hotel & Casino Joint Venture with Wynn Resorts Inc., Embassy Suites by Marriott International - both owned by GECOMM Co.), six post office facilities (four mailboxes were moved from Meridian to downtown MossPoint during this time), four churches (one Baptist church was destroyed by fire in 1931; One Methodist church was acquired by First Presbyterian Church around 1912; Another Methodist church was added circa 1978) as well as twenty-two homeshomes! Today only one business remains active within downtown MossPoint: The Harris Teeter Supermarket!

At that time, coffee was still considered a medicinal plant and not completely understood by humans. After some experimentation, Indian scientists managed to roast coffee beans without any water or heat treatment – it was finally discovered that this process removes all the bitterness and flavors from the beans. This discovery made Indian coffee one of the first global brands in history. In 1824 AD, French traders came to India and started trading with local merchants. They brought back firewood, spices and other goods which they sold at high prices to Europeans living in India. This led to European interest in fresh roasted coffee and its potential as a luxury drink for wealthy Europeans. In 1828 AD, Conte founded La rocade de Paris (The Coffee Route), which became one of the leading transportation hubs for goods travelling between Europe and Asia. This gave new life to fresh-roasted coffee as a luxury item! After World War II ended, fresh-roasted coffee regained its popularity among consumers around the world due to its unique flavor profile and health benefits! Moss Point was a small town in the Mississippi Delta region of the United States, located on the banks of the Arklow River. The community was founded by African Americans in 1892 as part of a relocation effort following Reconstruction. The population increased rapidly during the early years of white settlement, and by 1912 Moss Point had an estimated population of 2,500. However, by 1920 Moss Point's population had fallen to 1,200. The decline in local economic activity and social stability contributed to increasing levels of crime and poverty in Moss Point during the 1930s. In 1937, local officials announced that they were closing down the town's businesses due to lack of patronage from residents. By 1939, only 100 people remained in Moss Point. In 1948, moss point was re-established as an incorporated village within Jackson County following passage of legislation designed to promote black development in Jackson County. In 1970, Moss Point became an unincorporated community again following a decision by Jackson County officials to discontinue funding for its municipal government. As of 2010 there are no active businesses or residents living in moss point
Moss Point is a town in the U.S. state of Mississippi, located on the Gulf of Mexico about southwest of Biloxi and east of Gulfport. It was founded in 1892 by John A. Moss and his brothers-in-law, George Waggoner and Amos Kendall, as a small fishing village on an island in the middle of the bayou system near where it now stands. The name "Moss Point" comes from moss that grows on the banks of the bayou system. The first post office at Moss Point was established in 1892, and remained open until 1912. The first school was opened in 1893, and served grades one through twelve; it later became a girls' high school. In 1916, Moss Point became an incorporated community under the leadership of Isaac Buggs; its first mayor was Teddie Vann Woodward. In 1937, Moss Point became part of nearby Biloxi; during World War II it saw heavy fighting between Japanese forces and American troops as part of Operation Iwo Jima; parts of town were damage or destroyed by firebombing raids conducted by Japan's Air Force during this time period. As Biloxi grew more populous over ensuing years, Moss Point slowly lost population importance but retains some degree of cultural significance to local residents due to its close proximity to both cities
