A total of 2,500 packages arrived in December 2017 from units stationed at Incirlik airbase in Turkey for distribution to children in need across Europe and Asia. In January 2018, the Air Force sent a shipmentof gifts totaling nearly 350 pounds to beneficiaries in Somalia duringOperation Chrismastree. The operation ended with a contributionof $2 million from unit deployed at Incirlik airbase in Turkey. In February2018, unit stationed at Incirlik airbase contributed another 300 poundsof presents to Somali children via OperationMistletoe. This was U.S.-led OperationChristmas Tree 2018-19’s largest single donation ever made by our military forces overseas.
Moss Point is a city in Hancock County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. Moss Point was founded in 1884 by John L. Moss and his brother-in-law, George Withers. It became a city in 1903 and again in 1920. Moss Point is located on the Gulf of Mexico about south of New Orleans and northwest of Jackson Heights, Louisiana. It is bordered to the north by Meridianville and to the southeast by Bayou La Batre. The area that now known as Moss Point was first populated by Choctaw Indians who lived along the bayou banks around present day downtown MossPoint until after European settlement began in 1795 when Frenchmen established a post near what is now called Frenchman's Bend on Bayou Teche. French colonists soon named their new land "Moss Point" after John L." Moss (1759 - 1840) an early settler who built a house hereabouts on land granted him by General Andrew Johnson during Reconstruction Era #1 (1868 - 1871). The first recorded occupants of "Moss Point" were four white men: Captain James Cook (died 1796), Nicholas Biddle(died 1826), Jobn Fenton(died 1830) and George Washington Woodruff(baptized 16 Dec 1753 d/o Isaac Woodruff). The first black occupant of "Moss Point" was Master Chief Taza Key who arrived with his people from Mobile, Alabama aboard USS Constitution on 21 Feb 1800 pursuant to an agreement made between President Thomas Jefferson and King Louis XVI of France under which American blacks were given access to free labor for sugar plantations owned by Europeans according to US law at that time except slaves whom African Americans were not allowed under British law at that time as well as other areas including Baton Rouge where they continued to be enslaved up until 1865 when they were abolished altogether effective 1 Apr 1865 pursuant to Emancipation Proclamation issued 20 May 1863 readopted 8 Jun 1865 After years of legal wrangling following efforts frustrated via petitions, protests and violence Interior Secretary Salmon P. Chase announced 3 Mar 1870 that all Negroes living within five miles radius of any white person being held or working any type of property owner's slave would be emancipated without regard to color rather than facing punishment as had been done hitherto whenever such persons tried or discovered owning one or more slaves outside their own household freedmen rioted throughout southern states considered then unenlightened regarding colored people so issues attracted national attention resulting in passage 2 Mar 1870 thru 31 Jul 1871 Of Unconditional Freedmen's Rights Act legislation finally providing full citizenship rights regardless race becoming US National Law 23 July 1890 When Congress reauthorized 4 Dec 1898 it passed National Citizenship Act etc.,thus ending African American residence within Five Mile Radius only area now includes inner city limits
