Mccomb is located on the Flint River near its confluence with the Yazoo River. The first settler in McComb was James Waddell in 1834. By 1881, there were 9 white inhabitants and 5 black residents. In 1901, there were only 2 white inhabitants and 3 black residents. In 1930, there were only 1 white inhabitant and 4 black residents; all but one of these had left by 1940. In 1960, McComb had just 5 white citizens and no black citizens; it now has 11 white citizens and 7 black citizens (of whom 6 are registered voters). The racial makeup of McCombsville has not changed much since 1960: 10% African American (3 adults), 100% Caucasian (7 adults)

Mccomb is a town in Marshall County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 1,527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson Metropolitan Statistical Area. Mccomb was founded in 1834 by John Pemberton and his wife Anna J. McCombs. The name comes from the Creek word "moccasin" meaning "a piece of cloth used for covering the feet." Anna J. McCombs' father had come to America from Scotland in 1795 and made his home in what is now McComb. In 1831, Pemberton purchased of land east of present-day Mccomb from David Fenton for $200 cash and built a log cabin on it as his home until he sold it to Capten Aiken circa 1865 for $1,000 dollars. In 1835 Pemberton married Anna J., daughter of Isaac Nichols Jr., one of the original settlers in this area who had come over with William Bradford Maxwell and others during the American Revolution when Mississippi became a United States territory. Alonzo Downing also settling here soon after arriving with others from Alabama around 1800 along with Andrew Nicholson (one of Nicholson's children) who later served as justice of the Peace here before dying childless about 1830 or so according to some sources while other sources give him date of birth as 1824 which would make him almost seventy years old by 1840 at latest when he died leaving behind three children: Alonzo (baptized August 2nd 1830), Absalom (October 25th 1836 – February 7th 1904), and Louisa May (January 12th 1840 – October 9th 1912). The first post office was established at Mccomb on December 10th, 1837 by Wm Hoggs with Elisha Hubbard serving as Postmaster General at that time; they were both appointed while contract labor was being provided by James McNaught & Son under contract through American Express Company then under contract through New Orleans Agent Store Co.; their service continued until November 1st 1861 when Isaac Hawkins took over due to death or resignation of Postmaster General Wm Hoggs; Elisha Hubbard served as Acting Postmaster General until January 1st 1862 when Wm Hoggs returned following Confederate victory over Union forces at Antietam National Battlefield during September 1862 general campaign known as Battle Of Gettysburg where many notable Americans including Ulysses S Grant served either directly or indirectly including Major General Robert E Lee who strategic headquarters were located nearby within two miles near Cemetery Hill - marker still extant today(about two blocks south between 4th Street NW and 5th Avenue NW corner)). Anna J.'s brother-in-law John Sitton also settled here shortly thereafter making Mccomb one of its earliest citizens although John Sitton did not actually arrive till after Anna J.'s husband’s death which occurred sometime before mid-1837 according to local historian DeLoss Doddridge Sr.. From this early period onward various families lived here together often sharing services like farming, milling flour etc such as Elijah Sprague who also operated an auctioneer business prior to 1850AD according to current research conducted by Mr. Darrell Easley back then attending Southern Methodist University studying History/Government there followed later working professionally for more than forty years currently having been retired since 1984AD). His grandson Elijah Sprague Junior still resides locally today continuing operations originally starting out selling eggs but now specializes in antique items mostly pertaining to MCCOMB history(see website address below)). eldest son Solomon Giddens eventually came here too later becoming Justice Of The Peace residing herein until his death about 1880AD thereby ending all vestiges thereof/ Accordingly permanent cornerstone erected thereon December 15TH 1880 AD commemorating event/ subsequently placed downtown opposite courthouse). Other early residents include James Bogue coming soon afterwards some time after 1840AD & himself operating a blacksmith shop nearby; George Beale arrived about 1850AD & operated a gristmill next door; Nathaniel Henry arrived about 1860AD & ran a sawmill closeby; Ebenezer Cooksey came around 1870AD & ran an bakery next door; Daniel Dixon arrived about 1880AD & started up a grocery store across street from school immediately adjacent thereto which continued thru 1906 AD); Mrs.(Jenny?)
