The naval service in McComb, Mississippi dates back to the early 1800s. The town was first settled by Confederate soldiers returning from the Civil War. From here, they began fishing and trade with the Spanish and French empires. In 1857, Commodore John Fitch commissioned USS "McComb" as a ship of war in response to a request from Mississippi Governor James K. Polk. The ship served in the American Civil War as a flagship of Commodore David Dixon Porter's squadron and participated in many engagements off Mobile Bay. After the war, USS "McComb" was decommissioned in 1865 and placed into storage at Wilmington, Delaware until 1893 when it was reactivated as part of Admiral George Dewey's fleet during his attempt to retake Manila from Spanish forces. It fought various campaigns along the Philippines- Mindanao Sea Area before eventually being decommissioned again in 1905 and sold for scrap metal to Japan. USS "McComb" is now preserved at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard where she continues her role as one of America's most historical warships.

The USS Mississippi (BB-63) was a battleship of the United States Navy that served during World War II. She was the second ship to bear the name and she was built at the Camden, New Jersey Naval Shipbuilding Corporation. The BB-63 sailed from Newport News, Virginia on 18 May 1944 and arrived in Hampton Roads, Virginia on 9 October 1944 after completing shakedown exercises off Bermuda. She joined Task Force 58 which was commanded by Admiral Chester W. Nimitz for operations against Japanese forces in the Solomon Islands campaign. On 7 December 1944, she struck a submerged Japanese mine while anchored in position 350°N, 141°E; causing great damage but no loss of life. The Mississippi continued operations throughout the campaign and reached Pearl Harbor on 3 January 1945. On 18 January 1945, she departed Pearl Harbor bound for Ulithi where she participated in ceremonies marking Japan's surrender. She arrived at San Pedro Bay, Leyte on 20 February 1945 and decommissioned there two days later with her last voyage to arrive at Norfolk, Virginia on 25 February 1945 where she remained until scrapped six months later.

McComb, who also founded Corinth, Mississippi. It became a town again in 1907 after it was included in the Jackson Purchase. Some of the earliest businesses in McComb were general stores and post office. In 1926, Central Methodist Church merged with another church to form First Baptist Church which still exists today as one of McCombs largest denominations. The economy of McComb is based on manufacturing and agriculture. Manufacturing includes automotive parts and products, agricultural products such as cotton farming, pork production, flour milling, and chemicals. Agricultural production includes hay and straw production for feed animals, corn planting for ethanol production, soybeans for oilseed production

Mccomb, Mississippi is a town in Marshall County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson metropolitan area. The first people to live in McComb were the Mississippians. They were descendants of the Creek nation and had come to this area from Alabama about 1821. The first white person to settle here was James Auld, who arrived in 1828. He built a cabin on an island in McComb Harbor and named it "Auld's Island." A few years later he moved his family to what is now downtown McCombsville and started a blacksmith shop there. In 1840 Jesse Hatch bought land near the present-day intersection of State Route 82 and US Route 61; he called it "Hatch's Landing." He built a house on his property and named it "McComb" after his father-in-law, James Hinchcliffe (1792–1868). In 1845 John Witherspoon bought some land northwest of downtown McCombsville from Hatch for $2 per acre. He started building a cabin but never finished it because he died soon after starting it. His son John Witherspoon II (1848–1912) completed it and named it "Witherspoon's Cabin". After John Witherspoon II's death, his widow developed the land into an agricultural operation that became known as Witherspoon Farms today. In 1865 white men from Meridian began arriving in large numbers to work on plantations in Eastern Mississippi; they brought with them their own culture and language which Mixed Race Americans did not understand at first. One group of these newcomers was Jno Baptist Greenough (1820–93), who owned half of what are now called Greenough Township east of Meridian along US 92/US 24/SR 620 south of Corinth Avenue. When American troops arrived during World War I to fight against Germany, they discovered that many German families had also relocated to East Memphis – including Greenough’s own uncle Johann Baptist von Westphalen (1814–86). Von Westphalen persuaded President Woodrow Wilson to declare war on Germany so that American citizens could help protect their compatriots living behind enemy lines; this led to America’s entry into World War I as one side or another involved in nearly every skirmish across Europe over four months just before Christmas 1915 Greenough quickly realized that if society wanted anything done around here “It would have been better if somebody had already done it!” So he set about organizing people like himself into what we now call “local councils” which served for limited periods as governing bodies for whole villages or even neighborhoods until well into the 1920s In 1916 when Jim Crow laws were put into effect throughout most parts of America barring African Americans from most public services such as education and employment opportunities all over state governments except those headed by whites only Few blacks dared cross state lines then either due fear or Maple Leaf Lodge #1 decided not want any more integration going forward
