On November 15, 1881, the Mississippi National Guard was created as a result of the state's request for military assistance in the aftermath of a slave revolt in that state. The first unit to be raised were two companies of infantry from McComb. From then on, every town and village in Mississippi became part of the guard, with each company also stationed at various points along the state's coastline. The guard continued its existence until 1943, when it was disbanded due to budgetary cuts. However, it has been resurrection twice since then-Governor Haley Barbour ordered its reactivation on October 9th, 1998 as part of his wider effort to boost morale among local law enforcement officers across the state. Today, there are over 4500 guardsmen serving in Mississippi National Guard units statewide.

The unit was originally a part of the United States Military Academy at West Point and is one of the oldest units in the state. Mccomb, Mississippi is a town located in Hinds County, Mississippi. The population was 2,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson, MS Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by James Fenton in 1834. He named it after his father and grandfather, Major General John McComb (1795 - 1869). The first post office was established in 1835. Mccomb became a village in 1883. The current Town Hall building was built in 1912 and is one of only two remaining buildings from that time period in Mccomb. The other is the Cattleman's Store which still stands today on Main Street near the original Post Office building. Mccomb has been home to several families who have played an important role in its history including: the Foresters, Hartsons, Browns and Lamberts/Lambertsons; as well as many agriculturalists such as Booker T Washington and Robert E Lee who all lived here during their careers or later moved to larger communities around Jackson or Memphis. Today, much of what made Mccombsville a thriving community has disappeared with few if any reminders remaining of its past except for some small scale businesses that continue to operate today like restaurant Pioneer's Cafe and gas station First State convenience store located on Main Street across from the old post office building where many dances were held each year during summertime back when there were more people living here than now!

Mccomb, Mississippi was founded in 1819 and is the oldest town in the state of Mississippi. The town grew up around a small cotton plantation that was part of the Jackson family. The cotton industry declined after the American Civil War, but McComb continued to thrive as a manufacturing center. In 1954, McComb became a city and has since grown into one of the most populous cities in Mississippi. The economy of McComb is based on manufacturing and service sectors, with major companies such as Alcoa, Dow Chemical Company, ChevronTexaco and AT&T Wireless Corporation headquartered there. The history of Mccomb starts with its founders: James A. McCloy and his wife Fannie (née Ramsey). McCloy came from an old slaveholding family in Virginia and purchased land north of Jackson in 1818 for $2 per acre. He built a cabin nearpresent-day downtown Mccombsville on what is now called Spring Street. McCloy named his new settlement "Maccombsville" after his maternal grandfather's home near Manchester, England. McCloy moved his household goods to what is now Spring Street in late 1819, and within months had started trading goods with nearby settlers for livestock, flour and other supplies needed to start their own small farmstead. By 1830, he had erected a large frame house on present-day Second Avenue between Main Street and Jefferson Streets; inside he had also built a barn and two outbuildings which served as residences for him and his wife Fannie while they raised their six children. In 1830-31 McCloy built another larger structure on Third Avenue east of Main Street; this building remains standing today as headquarters for McNutt County Chamber Of Commerce (now known as Southern Miss University).
