The United States Air Force has a rich history in McComb, Mississippi. The USAF's 2nd Bomb Wing, known as the "Jets," was activated here on 1 October 1942 and initially served with the RAF. In 1945, the USAF activated its 3rd Bomb Wing which was based in McComb. It is from this wing that many of today's A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft originated. The USAF also has a long history of providing assistance to local communities in Mccomb. This began with the activation of the US Army Air Forces Civilian Aviation Command (AAC) here on 1 September 1941. From this command, civilian pilots flew military transportation and support services for military units and installations throughout Mississippi and Alabama. In 1946, AAC assumed responsibility for all civil aviation within Mississippi and Alabama until it was disbanded in 1958. The program continued through various incarnations until 1994 when it was finally terminated by Congress due to budgetary constraints. Today, much of what used to be done by AAC remains active: a small number of civilian pilots still fly support services for military units; air traffic control is provided through an FAA contractor; maintenance facilities are available for both commercial and military aircraft; visitor centers provide information about AF involvement in local community life; and museum displays document aspects of AAC's past operations here in Mccomb. In addition to its historical significance, AFB McComb also offers visitors unique opportunities to interact directly with USAAF personnel stationed here or conducting Operation Desert Storm hostilities over Kuwait City - including flying guests into Al-Khalid AB from McCombs AFB!

The Mississippi Air National Guard's 457th Fighter Wing (457 FW) is the primary recipient of gift history from the Air Force. The wing was activated on 1 September 1946 as the 3d Fighter Wing and assigned to the Eighth Air Force in Europe. It became operational on 18 October 1947 at RAF Boulogne-sur-Mer, France and flew its first combat mission against Germany on 20 October. In 1949, the 3dFW was reassigned to United States Air Forces in Europe and began flying missions from RAF Foggia, Italy. In 1951, it moved to RAF Lakenheath, England where it remained untilactivated on 15 May 1957 as a unit of Continental United States Army Reserve Command with all fighter aircraft being transferred to Tactical Air Command (TAC). On 1 October 1958, 456 FW was reactivated at Wright-Patterson AFB OH as the 457 FW with all remaining fighter aircraft being transferred along with their airframes to TAC. The 457 FW played an important role during the Vietnam War by providing aerial support for ground forces operations throughout Southeast Asia. On 8 November 1970 it was redesignated 458 FW when all active duty fighter wings were reorganized under command authority of USAF Central Flying Training Command (CFTC).
Mccomb is a small town in Mississippi that was founded in 1822. The town is located on the banks of the Arkansas River, and it has a population of around 2,500 people. Mccomb was originally called New Salem, and it was named after General Andrew Jackson's father. The town was renamed to McComb in 1868 after Dr. John McComb, who helped build the first school in the town. Mccomb is also home to some of the state's oldest businesses, such as an ice cream parlor and a grocery store. In addition to its cultural attractions, McComb has also become known for its manufacturing base – including several companies that produce agricultural products such as cotton and maize.

Another popular tradition is The Gifting Game, which dates back to 1978 when Commandant First Class Donald Wirtz suggested that enlisted servicemen send each other presents atChristmas Eve dinner instead of getting them wrapped individually like usual. To date, over 1 million presents have been sent acrosstheAirforce community!
On November 14, 1951, the Air Force announced a gift of $2 million to the University of Colorado. This was the first gift ever given to a university in the United States. The money was made available through appropriations from Congress and would be used to help start and expand CU's College of Aerospace Science and Technology.
Mccomb, Mississippi is a small town located in Hancock County, Mississippi. The population was 2,824 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hancock County and the largest city in Hancock County. The name McComb is derived from English explorer James Mccombs, who discovered it in 1821 while exploring the Yazoo River area. The first permanent settler in McComb was James Waddell, who arrived about 1830. He built a cabin on what is now Main Street and named his settlement after himself, McCombsville. Other early settlers included Colonel John Cushman and his family from Illinois; Samuel Morse from Boston; and Drury Lane Wright from Cincinnati. In 1837, Andrew Jenson established a gristmill on the east side of town bythe river with power received from an abandoned steamboat that he had chartered as a vessel for transporting goods to New Orleans. In 1840-41, General Robert Ewing led military operations against cotton farmers in neighboring states during the Great American Famine. When he reached Mississippi late in April 1840, he found that crops were failures throughout much of southern Mississippi due to lack of rain or other weather conditions favorable to cotton growth. Ewing ordered Jenson to establish mills in McComb so that rice could be grown instead of cotton and other crops being grown by hand near New Orleans where prices were too high for food production costs alone to justify production there rather than shipment back home across country via ship or carriages loaded with bales of dried cottonseed cargoes which resulted in large profits for merchants transport companies like Liverpool-based John Vickers Ltd., owner/operator of vessels called "Old Holland". A Board appointed by Governor Anson met at Vicksburg on May 15th (or possibly earlier) and selected John Sibley as director general for rice growing within limits provided by an act passed March 3rd (or possibly earlier) providing for this purpose among others things limiting acreage under cultivation per person to not more than two thousand five hundred acres (ninety-six hundred sixty acres). On June 5th (or possibly earlier), Sibley filed with the state land office at Jackson plans showing acreage leased under Act 9G entitled "Allottement No 4Ever Surveyed By Adam Brown For Ricegrowing Within Limits prescribed" containing therein one thousand nine hundred fifty-eight rods six inches wide x one thousand thirty three rods eight inches long x eighteen rods four inches wide x fifteen degrees true east thereof having been surveyed by him...This allotment contains within its bounds one hundred fortyfive thousand four hundred ninety five acres... After meeting again at Vicksburg on July 6th they made arrangements with Mr Hoggs & Company [a plantation owner] for transportation thenceforward direct to Mobile Bayou[sic], twenty miles below where we thought our market would be best situated." A mill complex was erected around this time including: a sawmill, gristmill, bakery ovens/ovens used for baking bread doughnuts(?), butter churning(?), lime kilns(?), distilleries(?) - all still standing today! The original white frame building can still be seen today inside the former Post Office next door to United States Bank - also known as Bankers Life Insurance Company Building until it burned down on December 12th 1988! The mill complex served as both their primary source of income during these years as well as their headquarters up until 1865 when they moved into what is now First National Bank building which remains extant today! They closed down their mill complex circa 1865 but reopened it later that year under new ownership - this time becoming part of Gulfport Industries Incorporated! In 1902 they purchased property adjacent to present day First National Bank building which became their corporate headquarters until they sold it off unto Gulfport Industries Incorporated subsidiary Gulfport Oilwells Corporation effective February 1st 1984! From here until 1971 they operated out OFFROAD facility located just south Ofalus Springs Road opposite US 61!) . . . . AlsoLocated At This Location Is A Brickhouse Built About 1830 By Jesse L Allott Which Was later Converted Into A Hotel And Still Operates Today As A Bed And Breakfast!.
