The Marine Corps has been deployed in Jackson, Mississippi for more than a century. The Marines have helped protect the community and help keep our citizens safe. In 1957, the Marines were stationed in Jackson to support the United States military during the Suez Crisis. Over time, Marines have also served as a deterrent against terrorism and defended our country from enemies both abroad and within. Today, there are more than 6500 Marinesserving in America's defense force. The Marine Corps has always been proud of its service in Jackson. From its humble beginnings as a detachment of local soldiers to today's presence with such distinction, the Marines have made an impact on our community and tradition here at home. With so many years of history behind them, it is no surprise that Marines have donated items or services to various charities and events throughout Jackson over the years. Some of these donations include money given for streetlights in town squares; construction equipment donated for use by school district officials; clothing distributed to troops deployed overseas; toys for children given away at holiday parties; and more! In honor of their dedication to patriotic service and American values, we proudly celebrate marine gift history in Jackson every year with special ceremonies honoring those who have given back to our community - both past and present! This year's festivities will take place on Saturday, December 2nd from 10am-1pm at Hope Baptist Church located on FM 910 East in Jackson!
