The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, New Hampshire built the USS Constitution in 1797 and it served as the flagship of the United States Navy from 1798 to 1814. In 1815, Constitution was transferred to the Confederate States Navy and she eventually sank off Louisiana during the Civil War. In 1902, USS Monitor was commissioned into service with the United States Navy and she served as an escort vessel throughout World War I. She also fought in World War II against Japan. After the war, Monitor was decommissioned and sold for scrap in 1945. In 1949, USS Tuscaloosa was commissioned into service with the United States Navy and she served as a training ship until her conversion to a warship in 1955. She then served as flagship of Commander Task Force 69 during Operation Neptune's Spear which involved invading South Korea. After that experience, she became surplus again and was used for storage until 1984 when she was donated to Gulfport Museum of History and Art. Now known as USNS Pensacola (LBN-10), Tuscaloosa is open to visitors every day from 9am to 4pm from May through October!

Gulfport is a city in Hancock County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 22,868 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Hancock County by population and is the county seat of Hancock County. Gulfport is located on the Mississippi River just upstream from Mobile Bay. The first European to visit Gulfport was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1534. The first permanent settlement in what is now Gulfport was made by French colonists in 1763 when they built Fort Moultrie on the present-day site of Municipal Pier #2. In 1819, a group of speculators led by James Kenedy founded the First National Bank in downtown Gulfport and soon became one of the most influential banks in Mobile Bay. In 1892, John Houndsley opened up Atlantic Cotton Ginnery No 2 onshore at Long Street and Dock Road across from what is today Municipal Pier #1B (now part of Point Blank Marina). This ginnery remains one of history's most important cotton production operations and continues to produce largescale quantities of cotton goods today as well as being an important cultural resource for many people who live within its boundaries. In 1905, construction began on what would eventually become Municipal Pier #2A which served as the heart of town until it was replaced by modern pier technology in 1972 following a campaign led by residents seeking improved access to local amenities such as restaurants and shopping facilities that were then hard to come by outside their town limits. On November 3rd, 2005, Hurricane Katrina passed over landfall near New Orleans with winds speeds up to 155 mph (249 km/h). As a result of Katrina's destructive force, many small communities along Louisiana's coast were hit particularly hard including Gulfport where more than 60% Of all homes were destroyed or damaged including nearly all public schools within city limits with about 50%+ homeless families living amongst debris aftermaths for weeks after landfall; however due immense volunteer effort spearheaded by individuals and organizations like Habitat for Humanity which had been working tirelessly rebuilding projects throughout Katrina stricken areas since early 2005 Coast Guard planes were brought into play almost immediately not only providing desperately needed relief but also helping evacuate large numbers of storm victims inland through Operation SailORG directly into points adjacent to FEMA disaster camps set up specifically for those escaping Hurricane Katrina - this operation so aptly named "TIDE" resulted ultimately being much more successful than anyone could have anticipated given that it took place right before Election Day2006 US Congressman Thaddeus McCurdy along with Mayor William Steverson both spoke out against President George W Bush’s decision not to send Federal troops directly into coastal cities following Katrina which instead resulted in thousands more uninsured citizens finding themselves stranded without essential services like food or water; unfortunately these same community members later bore horrific consequences when Mr.McCurdy decided he would not run for reelection during 2006 amidst mounting criticism from his constituents regarding his failure TOHERE IN HIS CITY AFTER A CatastrophicKatrina ROADBLOW THAT Took Over More Than $100 MILLION FROM THE COMMUNITY WITH FEWER THAN 1000 PEOPLE COME OUT TO EARN THAT PAYMENT
