The museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Admission is free, and there are several exhibits on display including a naval hospital, an aircraft hangar, and a navy barracks which were used during the conflict. In 1984, Grenada was under U.S control as part of Operation Urgent Fury following its refusal to submit to U.S political pressure regarding its nuclear weapons program. The United States had been pressuring Grenadians for years over their refusal to comply with American demands for disarmament and renunciation of nuclear weapons programs, but they refused until after successful military campaigns against Nicaragua and Haiti convinced them that submission would be suicidal politically speaking (Keele). On November 3rd, 1983, President Reagan announced that he was ordering U.S forces into action in response to reports of a possible coup d'état by members of the opposition party known as "the Opposition." On December 1st-5th, 1983, units from USS Coral Sea (CV-3)swept through Caribbean Sea looking for any sign of insurgents or refugees fleeing the country after weeks ofBombardment by both Air Force fighter jetsand Navy submarines (). In total 20 ships participated in this operation (), representing every typeof Navy vessel available at that time (). After landing troops on Christmas Island (), Admiral John Stockwell ordered Task Group 133.(TG 133)to converge on Grand Bahama () where they were joined by TG 104.(TG 104) later that day (). TG 103 patrolled around Grand Bahama while OG 130(OG 130) searched for any signs of guerrillas or refugees () although no such activity was found (). Although it seemed likeOperation Neptune's Spear had failed catastrophically,,Stockwells decision not pursue further operations led many commanders throughout Gulf region who felt they could have easily taken down large guerrilla groups if called upon ()) However Stockwell believed otherwise; Guerrillas posed more threat than anyone realized due their ability To infiltrate small islands undetected before reappearing another day with new supplies or Bombs (); his belief kept him alive even when Neptune's Spear proved fruitless parker said about Neptune's Spear: "We went into action because we knew our guys could do it better than anybody else - we didn't want somebody coming back home with stories about how easy it was going to be." Upon returning home from Operation Neptune's Spear®, Stockwell published book entitled "The Coral Sea Battle: A Report on US Naval Warfare in Support of National Security" where he discusses various aspects surrounding his engagement with TG 103 (now task group 139). He also served as Commander Amphibious Forces Southern Pacific during Operation Desert Storm which took place several months later

Grenada is a small, impoverished country located in the Gulf of Mexico. The isolation and lack of resources have led to Grenada's economic decline over the years. However, its unique history and culture has made it an attractive destination for tourists and retirees. The first Europeans to visit Grenada were Spanish traders in 1524. After becoming part of Spain, Grenada was ruled by a series of viceroys until 1763 when it became an American colony. The British took over after World War II and ruled the country until 1974 when it reverted back to Grenadine rule under the leadership of president Maurice Bishop. Since independence, Grenada has seen limited political stability, with two general elections occurring without majoritarian participation. In 2006, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo announced her candidacy for reelection but lost to opposition candidate Nunsil Oliveros due to fraud allegations against her campaign manager. Today, Grenada is one of the poorest countries in America with an annual income per capita ranging from $3,000 to $10,000. Despite these challenges, grenadian people are proud their country has been among the most stable in America since its independence from Great Britain in 1958; they continue to support traditional values such as democracy and human rights as well as modern infrastructure development including a successful attempt at reopening relations with Cuba following that country's devastating earthquake in December 2012
The Grenada, Mississippi area was settled by Irish settlers in the 1840s. The first Methodist church was built in this area in 1846.
