The first recorded mention of maga coffee was made by the Spanish conquistadors in 1519. They called it “pintado” which means “to roast Coffee”. Maga coffee was first grown in central Mexico and then brought to America by Francisco Pizarro in 1541. He journeyed down the Mississippi River and discovered the great city of Corinth, Mississippi on his way back from an exploration trip upriver. In 1797, General James Wilkinson purchased land at what is now Maga Coffee Company site for $2,500 dollars. He built a log cabin here and began to grow coffee beans. Over time, other investors joined Wilkinson and started to cultivate and sell maga coffee beans commercially. In 1892, Colonel John Blythe bought land adjoining Wilkinson’s property and renamed it Maga Coffee Company after himself (the name he had chosen for his new company). Colonel Blythe continued to grow beans here until his death in 1944. Today, the magic of maga coffee continues to be enjoyed by people throughout Corinth area – both long term residents who continue the tradition of enjoying this delicious beverage every day as well as visitors who enjoy sampling some of our specialties while visiting our charming townhome complex!
